SH 650.1 Employee Dress Code Guidelines

There have been several questions recently about whether jeans may be worn every day during June and July.  Rather than answering this question each year before summer reading, we are updating the employee dress code to define attire that includes that time-frame.  While updating that portion of the procedure, we are also utilizing the opportunity to update the definitions for items #7 and #8 as follows:

Draft Library Accounts Procedures

The Library Accounts Policy (AL 200) was updated in the fall of 2016 and again in June 2017. Over the last year, multiple groups have worked on updating the Library Accounts Procedures. A main challenge that we faced was providing enough guidance that staff know what to do but enough versatility to allow the process to change with new technology and new ways to establish eligibility and establish accounts (online registration, in-person, with or without an application).

They will go to the A&P Committee for review next week, but they will not be approved by the full Commission until December 14.

AM 100.1 Borrowing Procedures Draft

The Borrowing Procedure Research has been up for a while now. We have received no comments or questions, so we feel confident in sharing our draft of the Procedures. Under the first section ‘Borrowing’, you will notice that there are three options on what information a member needs to present in order to borrow materials. Between the three options, it covers the information needed to checkout at a circulation desk (with or without a physical card), at a self-checkout, or checking out digitally. These procedures assume that the person already has a library card in good standing.

AM 100 Borrowing Procedures Research

It has been a while since our lively forum discussion about the BIG changes proposed to the AM 100 Borrowing policy. Since then, the Borrowing Procedures Committee has met a number of times to consider the proposed policy, identify all procedures – official or unofficial – and make recommendations for the parts of the policy that need procedures and the parts that are in need of training support prior to implementation. Attached is a document that describes in detail the questions the committee asked and answered as well as other information they learned through this process.

Good afternoon staff,

ILL requested that we update one portion of the ILL policy to match a proposed change to AM 100. We are increasing the checkout period of ILL materials to 3 weeks to match the general collection. Policy & Procedure Pages

Good afternoon,

You may have noticed that we made a small change to the policy pages on the intranet in hopes of making it easier to view. We have combined all Access to Libraries (AL), Access to Materials (AM), and Access to Services (AS) policies under one page titled "Public Services". We also combined Guiding Values, Historical Values, and Fundamental Values under one "Values" page.

Hello Staff!

The attached proposed changes to our AM 100 (Borrowing) and AL 310 (Cardholder Responsibility) policies will go to the full commission later this month. These changes are minimal, and simply to accommodate the service to our new ONEcard members beginning on September 1.

Both policies are up for a full committee review this fall (September and October-November, respectively,) so keep in mind that we'll be addressing them more thoroughly at that time.

Information on the policy review process

For those of you who are not familiar with the policy review process. I thought I'd share a little bit of information on how it all works.
