AL 200 Account Eligibility Approved by the Commission
Submitted by meg.hunt on Mon, 07/18/2016 - 16:12

To begin simplifying and streamlining our policies, language previously in AL 210 (Library Cards) has been merged into AL 200 (Eligibility) to indicate who is eligible for a library account, and which account type they are eligible to receive. AL 212 (Card Signatures) has been eliminated.
Stay tuned-- procedures and a more thorough introduction to ONEcard will be posted soon.

The wording of Section 4) School Based Eligibility makes it seem like we are doing away with the Teacher Verification Form that we need to send into Circulation Control, or would their school id/work badge be sufficient? I know that with the student cards we don't need to send anything in to prove the verification.
Hi Sarah! That is correct-- AL 210.1 (School Procedures for Teachers) is eliminated, effective August 1. So anyone who works for a school will be eligible, and they'll still need to provide proof of that employment per the 200.1 procedure. However the form is no longer required.
Awesome!
Are people eligible to get a card if they don't live in our service areas but work anywhere within them? Or is that only for those that work at a school, college, university?
Also I noticed on our website that our explanation of how people qualify for cards isn't very simple and to the point. I think we would be able to gain more card holders by simplifying our wording for our library card eligibility like pioneer has with theirs...(http://pioneerlibrarysystem.org/apply-for-library-card)
Currently, individuals who work, but do not live, in our service area are not eligible for library accounts (unless they work in a school). That is something we will be reconsidering when we review AL 200 in October/November.
