It’s one of our Strategic Plan goals: connecting! Connectors are people and information specialists. They’re trendy and fun and smart. They know a lot. They like a lot of resources. They have networks of friends and acquaintances and are happy to link those networks together for the good of one and all. They also are keen at linking people with information and resources. They know how to locate who or what you need. The role of connector is a necessary one at Metro.
Collaborators have the gift of sociability. They get along with just about everyone and are happy to champion a project. They are willing and eager to make things work. They use charm and influence to get things done. Great at customer service, they relish one-on-one interactions and do well in a structured environment. In an organization as large as MLS, collaboration is a necessary skill.
Creators are among us. They are full of energy, bursting with ideas. They always want to do something new, or have a crazy idea that just might work! They are willing to try and fail, then try again. They are happy to start something in motion, then step back and watch it go. They can be introverted or extroverted, smart yet naïve, playful as well as disciplined. Creators are important to MLS. We need their passion and resourcefulness.
For our library system to be successful, we rely heavily on the cultivators. Cultivators recognize the need to develop people, collections and/or processes to turn a vision into reality. Inspirational, insightful and nurturing, the cultivator takes great pride in establishing an environment that promotes success and adds value to the organization and the community. They are great at planning, organizing, and curating. A cultivator will delegate as necessary but often prefers to do the work without assistance. Ultimately, their goal is to get the job done. No excuses. Cultivators contribute to Metro’s maturity and provide for stable growth.
