Friends Grant Process Update - Apply Now!

On Tuesday, July 16th, the Friends board approved our annual funding request. Our funding request for the Friends this year will occur in three cycles. The first request covered funding totaling $147,500 to support: Summer Reading, Scholarships for Staff, planned Furniture and Upgrades in several locations, and planned activities for Community Engagement.

ERM Overview

Sarah Peterson gave an overview of the Electronic Resource Management (ERM) tool that has been built for Metro.  The ERM will be used to better coordinate the management information related to the cost, access (including licensing info), and use of all of our electronic subscriptions and acquisitions.  For now, access is limited to collection development and management staff and those in the digital library, but it may be opened up for others later.  It was launched this past winter, and had a subset of resources included.  Other resources will be added in the coming months.  The tool can be used to set targets for use and cost per use, so that collection development staff can more easily determine which resources are performing well and which are underperforming.

Collection Management Policy
Janet described the changes proposed for the Collection Management Policy and answered questions.  The policy will be posted to the intranet for staff comment beginning Monday, February 6th.  The Commission's Public Services Committee will discuss the policy changes in March, and the Committee's recommendation will be presented to the full Commission at its April meeting.

NEW: Process for obtaining granted dollars from the Friends of the Library

Continuing with their annual tradition, the Friends of the Metropolitan Library are generously granting funds for fiscal year 2017.  These funds will support scholarships, Summer Reading, programming and much more.  As part of their total funding this year, $44,500 has been set aside for libraries and departments to apply.

Statistical Highlights

  • 1,793 titles new to the collection were cataloged in October, including e-media titles; approximately 180 records for mass market paperbacks were added.
  • Approximately 19,500 new items were added to the collections in October, including about  2,000 browsing collection items.

Friends of the Library Funding Opportunities (New Wish List Process)

After much discussion and input, a new process for requesting and distributing monies from the Friends for special projects is beginning.  In the past staff and libraries would request funds from the Friends prior to the budget input cycle. Along with trying to determine the needs at a library for the upcoming year, we were asking that you also try to identify special projects that might be appropriate to ask for the Friends to fund.

Materials Services Division Managers' Meeting Minutes April 2012

Update on Past Action Items-All
• Janet will create procedures for libraries to use when requesting replacements for damaged AMPs and forward to MS Managers for review.
• Janet prepared guidelines and forwarded to managers. A few minor changes were made and Janet sent out the guidelines to library managers.
• Upon further examination of the guidelines and because several vendors besides Playaway and Recorded Books require the damaged players be returned for replacements, Heidi decided to handle all replacement parts. Janet modified the guidelines and sent them out to the library managers. They are also posted on the Intranet.
