Leadership Team Minutes - July 17, 2019

Opportunity for Exhibition:

Julie Ballou shared that MLS may have an opportunity to apply for a traveling exhibit through ALA. This exhibit would have a lower cost to show and utilize than the Sendak exhibit and will be a strong fit for MLS.

Room Use:

Chris Kennedy distributed an early draft of new room use guidelines for library customers who rent and reserve library spaces.

Core Values Conversation:

A draft of revised core values was distributed for discussion.

Collection Anywhere Minutes - May 10, 2017

John Huber Project

  • Cataloging and Tech Processing have been filling out the forms for a week
    • There was some confusion over some of the terms
    • We will keep going until pink slips are gone, except items that are stuck until street date
    • Pauline is working on data entry – ILL also helped out with this piece
    • Staff are also tracking other work they do that takes them away from tracked tasks
  • First committee meeting will be June 8th at 10:00 at the Service Center

    Paperback Series Discussion Group Recommendations

    Group members: Pauline Rodriguez-Atkins, CAT/ILL, Chair; Margo Ellis, CAT; Annie Emmons, BI; Caralen Haymans, WA; Clyde Herrod, CAT; Devin McGhee, CAT; Tracy Stone, NW; Jill Vessels, CAT.

    Charge: Identify materials in browsing collections that users commonly request and/or search for by series title ; develop a classification/spine label system that will allow easy access and retrieval of these materials when they are transitioned to regular collections.

    Evolution of Graphic Novel Shelving at MLS Continues

    We in Cataloging and the Collection Anywhere group have heard that there has been a lot of confusion about the way that spine labels appear on graphic format novels recently.

    Graphic formats are becoming a larger part of library collections all the time.  Libraries and catalogers are still trying to come up with a simple, standard method of classifying and shelving them.

    Report On Illiad Implementation - Pauline

    ILLiad, aka ILL online, is now live!  Library staff members were allowed to create personal accounts beginning on April 18; all members were allowed to create accounts beginning May 2.  Currently there are around 120 personal online ILL accounts.  Several ILL “power users” have already begun using the service.

    Job Description, Director of Collections and Digital Strategies – Tim 

    Tim referenced the job descriptions that he had forwarded to the managers earlier.  The Director of Collections and Digital Strategies position would replace the previous position of Deputy Executive Director, Materials and Outreach.  The duties of the position would include supervision of the managers of Materials Selection, Cataloging & Interlibrary Loan, and Technical Processing.  The duties of supervising Outreach have been moved to the public service side and will no longer be a part of this position’s responsibilities.

    The group discussed the job description and made suggestions for changes.  Tim will incorporate the changes and report back before or at the April 14 meeting.

    Tim handed out a draft of the new job description for what is currently called the Director of Collection Management. He mentioned that he expects to fill this position within the next 6 months. Tim asked the managers to bring any concerns to the next MSD meeting.

    Statistical Summaries

    • Since the beginning of the fiscal year MSL has ordered 14715 titles for a weekly average of over 525 titles.  A total of 93137 items were ordered for an average of 3326 per week. 
    • MSL received over 5869 recommendations from customers to purchase titles, for an average of 210 recommendations per week. 
    • A total of 194 boxes of withdrawals and gifts have been received.  Almost 35 boxes of transfers and gifts were sent to CAT.
