Updates to Support Resources

The How-To Guides have been updated to remove Freegal and add a section about our eBooks from EBSCO. Feel free to print these guides on demand or print and display for customers to help themselves.

The FAQ (help.metrolibrary.org) has also removed mentions of Freegal.

Reminder: Freegal's Last Day is July 23rd

After careful review and consideration, Collection Development has made the decision to cancel Freegal. The last day of service will be July 23rd. However, customers will be able to transfer all downloaded music to a computer so they won’t lose the music they have acquired.  A set of transfer instructions are attached (thank you CIS).

Ad-Team Meeting Minutes - September 18, 2013

Materials & Outreach – Karen revealed the new Play-A-Way View and its display to the Ad Team. A Play-A-Way View is a preloaded multiple video player available exclusively to libraries. A View weighs only 5.4 ounces and is comparable in size to a GPS navigation device and will hold multiple hours of video content. The first batch of Play-A-Way Views is currently in cataloging; therefore they will make it to shelves within the next week. Karen will be present at the manager’s meeting today to show and discuss the new Play-A-Way device.

Ad-Team Meeting Minutes - April 17, 2013

Outreach – Dana displayed the 2013 Summer Reading – Early Childhood, Children and Teen poster boards which were all original artwork from the MLS Marketing Department. This year’s Early Childhood and Children’s theme is ‘Dig Into Reading’. The Teen theme is ‘Beneath the Surface’. Summer Reading will begin June 1st through July 31st. Brochures were sent out to libraries and area schools this week.

Dana also stated the ‘Day at the Zoo’ event sponsored by OETA and Read Across Oklahoma went very well.

Library Operations & Planning – Kay announced the monthly summary for MyMetroMinute. Staff created 261 original written content and added 33 comments for the month of March on MyMetrolibrary. There is a new job opening for a Virtual Librarian.

Materials Services Division Updates for March 2013

In Technical Processing, the average daily run for February was 887 items per day, for a total of 17,742 items in February. The average for March so far is 876 items per day. The processors are still current on processing all “rush” materials; they are processing non-rush materials from March 14, which is from the run 3 working days ago. Study guides and dated materials like continuations are also current.

During February, Technical Processing received a daily average of 48 boxes of materials a day, for a total of 955 boxes. The daily average in March so far is 52 boxes.

The next group of bindery materials is due from the branches to Technical Processing by March 29. The bindery will pick them up from TP the week of April 29.

Ad-Team Meeting Minutes - March 6, 2013

Kim announced the MLS Marketing Department received a total of six Addy Awards at the Addy Awards Banquet on February 23rd at the Coca Cola Events Center. The Addys are presented by the Oklahoma City Advertising Club and is the most prestigious recognition for excellence in local marketing.

Karen recently visited the Choctaw Library staff to work on their collection in preparation for a new manager.
