Materials Services Division Updates for December 2013

Since the beginning of July, a total of 6,754 customer suggestions have been received in MSL. On average, we received 270 per week. In the first 2 weeks of December 466 suggestions were received.

Since the first of July, a total of 15,207 titles have been selected and 101,009 items ordered. During the first 3 weeks of December, 2,468 titles and 15,176 items were ordered.

Since the beginning of July 376 boxes of withdrawals and gifts were received in MSL. During that time 211 boxes have been sent to the Friends, 101 boxes of transfers sent to CAT and 13 boxes of gifts sent to CAT.

Materials Services Division Updates for November 2013

Since the beginning of FY14, a total of 12,026 titles and 82,612 items were selected. The average per week is 601 titles and 4,130 items.

Since the beginning of July, a total of 5,869 customer suggestions were received. The average per week is 294 suggestions.

A total of 346 boxes of withdrawals and gifts were received in MSL since the beginning of the fiscal year. During October and the first 2 weeks of November, 102 boxes of withdrawals and gifts were received in the MSL basement. A total of 82 boxes of transfers and 12 boxes of gifts were sent to CAT since the beginning of the fiscal year. During October and the first 2 weeks of November, 18 boxes of transfers and 2 boxes of gifts were sent to CAT.

Materials Services Division Updates for October 2013

Since the beginning of the fiscal year 4078 customer suggestions have been received, for an average of 272 per week. During September, 1173 customer suggestions were received.

Since 7/1/13, 9135 titles were selected for an average of 609 titles per week. 63926 items were selected for an average of 4262 per week.

From Sept. 2 to Oct. 7th, 135 boxes of withdrawals and gifts were received from the libraries. 29 boxes of transfers and 3 boxes of gifts were sent to cataloging for processing. 43 boxes were sent to the Friends. During September Selection staff spent nearly 150 hours working with the withdrawals and gifts. So far in October, staff spent nearly 47 hours working with these materials.

Materials Services Division Updates for September 2013

Since the beginning of July, a total of 3502 customer suggestions were received. During the first 3 weeks of September, 849 suggestions were received. Most suggestions are for print titles.

Since the beginning of July, a total of 7357 titles were selected for the system and a total of 52582 items. During the first 3 weeks of September 1742 titles and 13590 items were selected.

2,901 new titles were cataloged during August, including 595 e-media titles.

21,149 barcode labels were printed in August; 20,151 for new materials and 998 for reprocessed materials.

2,034 new titles were received in Cataloging during August.

Average turnaround time for new titles in Cataloging in August was 2.75 working days. This includes only time that materials were in Cataloging; it does not include time in Technical Processing.

Materials Services Division Updates for August 2013

- During July, Materials Selection received 1425 suggestions to purchase material, for an average of 285 suggestions per week.
- Selection ordered a total of 3020 titles and 21400 items during July. In the first two weeks of August there have been 949 titles ordered with a total of 7833 items.
- 2,991 new titles were cataloged during July, including 358 e-media titles.
- 24,652 barcode labels were printed in July; 23,076 for new materials and 1,576 for reprocessed materials.
- 3,488 new titles were received in Cataloging during July.

Materials Services Division Updates for July 2013

Materials Selection:
In June, Materials Selection selected 5,134 titles and 33,273 items, ending the year with a total of 41,560 titles and 263,504 items. Also in June, MSL received 1,247 suggestions to purchase material for a total of 16,442 items for the year.

Technical Processing:
The average daily run for June was 937 items per day, for a total of 18,746 items. The average for July so far is 1,059 items per day. The processors are current on processing all rush materials and are processing non-rush materials from the run 10 days ago. Study guides and dated materials like continuations are also current. For FY13, TP processed a total of 231,817 items, that’s a daily average of 924 items, and an increase of about 1% compared to FY12.

Materials Services Division Updates for June 2013

With one week left in the fiscal year, Materials Selection selected a total of over 41,714 titles for the year and averaged 817 titles per week. A total of over 254,693 items were selected for the year, for an average of 4993 items per week. These figures show nearly 4900 more titles and 950 more items were selected in FY13 than in FY12.

As of June 7, 2013, MSL received 15,415 customer suggestions to purchase materials for the year, or an average of 315 per week. Most of the suggestions received were for print, 10,460. 1656 suggestions for CD Music; 1172 for feature films; 921 for CD books; 524 for e-media; 455 for DVDs (other than feature films); and 227 for Audio Media Players.

Average turnaround time for new titles in Cataloging in May was 1.36 working days; average for the FY13 through May is 1.24 working days. This includes only time that materials were in Cataloging; it does not include time in Technical Processing.

Materials Services Division Updates for May 2013

During the first 3 weeks of May a total of 1046 customer suggestions were received. MSL averages 316 suggestions each week for the fiscal year.

During the first 3 weeks of May a total of 2370 titles and 17719 items were selected and ordered, an average of 766 titles and 4858 items per week for the fiscal year.

Average turnaround time for new titles in Cataloging in April was 1 working day; average for the FY13 is 1.18 working days. This includes only time that materials were in Cataloging; it does not include time in Technical Processing.

Average turnaround time for new titles in Cataloging in March was 1 working day; average for the FY13 is 1.2 working days. This includes only time that materials were in Cataloging; it does not include time in Technical Processing.

In February, the average turnaround time for borrowing materials in ILL was 12 calendar days. This includes only time from the date requests are sent out from ILL to the date that they are received in ILL; it does not include routing time between MLS libraries and ILL.

The average daily run for March was 889 items per day, for a total of 18,450 items in March. The average for April so far is 776 items per day. The processors are current on processing all materials, rush and non-rush materials. Study guides and dated materials like continuations are also current.

Materials Services Division Updates for March 2013

In Technical Processing, the average daily run for February was 887 items per day, for a total of 17,742 items in February. The average for March so far is 876 items per day. The processors are still current on processing all “rush” materials; they are processing non-rush materials from March 14, which is from the run 3 working days ago. Study guides and dated materials like continuations are also current.

During February, Technical Processing received a daily average of 48 boxes of materials a day, for a total of 955 boxes. The daily average in March so far is 52 boxes.

The next group of bindery materials is due from the branches to Technical Processing by March 29. The bindery will pick them up from TP the week of April 29.
