An Old-Fashioned Christmas - Senior Moments

Wouldn’t it be wonderful to recapture some of the magic of Christmas that we experienced as children? Back then, I kept a very close eye on the December calendar page, frequently counting the number of days until Christmas. It certainly wasn’t because I expected loads of gifts, but the whole experience seemed magical to me. Probably each one of you has a memorable story or two about Christmas when you were a child. To help you feel more like a kid at Christmas, why not warm up a bowl of soup and enjoy some more real Christmas stories and some Christmas fiction. Your Metropolitan Library friends wish you some very merry Christmas reads this holiday season.

Dysfunctional Family Fiction - Virtual Book Display

It’s Thanksgiving, that time of year when we all think of pie, turkey, afternoon naps, and spending the weekend watching football with the family. For some it’s a joyous occasion, but for others it means that dreaded once-a-year meeting with the weird uncle that smells like sardines and gym socks and tells you you should have been a podiatrist. If you fall into the latter category you might find yourself alone, lost in a good book while trying to forget the family drama in the next room. So if you’re one of those types then we’ve got a great suggestion. Why not read about other weird families? Yours might not seem so bad after all. So if family time’s got you down and you find yourself dreading the holidays (or maybe your family just isn’t as cuckoo as you would like), we have got the dysfunctional family story for you!

Early Literacy Roundup - Books that Say “Thanks”

Thanksgiving is typically a mix of emotions with me. Obligatory family gatherings inevitably (and often awkwardly) lead to chit-chat and cacophonous, gluttonous, carnivorous free-for-alls. I’ve never been especially fond of these traditions. I do, however, have a special place in my heart for the idea of giving thanks. Over the years I’ve found that children are generally pretty grateful beings, too. Here are books that honor thanksgiving—rather than Thanksgiving—with a theme of gratefulness (and by extension, kindness).  Just pop in to your local Metro Library and we can set you up! We’d love to see you!
