Adult Services Minutes for September 2013

Anita opened the meeting with introductions of new librarians. Dana spoke about the upcoming Cimarron Opera tour in October and Melody of China tour in November. Dana passed around program survey’s from the 2012, 2013 programs. She pointed out that in most cases the 24 x 36 poster is the main bearer of upcoming programs. Dana asks that the posters coming from Outreach be placed in a prominent position 2 weeks before each tour. The INFO magazine usually comes in second. Other important ways of communicating upcoming programs come from word-of-mouth - family member to family member to friend to friend.

Manager of Library Operations Meeting Minutes for December 2012

Anita distributed to the managers an explanation sheet explaining how Winter Readfest 2013 works and stats for each library for the first 10 years of Winter Readfest. She shared that Winter Readfest 2012 including the fall 2010 Octoberfest marked 10 years for Metropolitan Library System. Anita informed that the time period has been extended from one month to six weeks beginning January 14 through February 25.

Materials for Readfest were routed to the libraries on December 13 and should arrive by December 19. Anita requested that handouts are placed at the circulation desk on December 28. She briefly discussed prizes and asked the managers to give customers a deadline to pick up their prizes.

Winter ReadFest Begins Today!

Does your customer have the it's-cold-outside-I'm-bored-can't-find-anything-to-eat/do/read-winter-doldrums??  If you are encountering this attitude or behavior encourage said customer to pick up a 2013 Winter Readfest game sheet and start reading for fun and prizes!  Explain the new game sheet and suggest they read something they've never tried before--or not, but assure them they will have a good time and just maybe win a great prize from a local business!

Circulation Forum Minutes November 2012

Welcome
Melody Kellogg (ED Manager) introduced herself to the Circ Forum attendees and asked everyone in attendance to introduce themselves.

Tour of Southern Oaks Library
Randy Wayland (SO Manager) gave a tour of SO. He mentioned that 3,000 sq ft have been added to SO library as well as 2 study rooms. Also, SO now has 36 public computers.

Manager of Library Operations Meeting Minutes for January 2008

The managers shared ways their staff members are adapting to the many changes made by the library system, and briefly discussed the importance of sharing system changing information with staff. Managers indicated that they understand that it is their role and responsibility to keep staff informed and to help them understand that the decisions made by administration are in the best interest of the system as a whole. The managers agreed that staff has been more tolerate of ambiguity and open to the changes.

Roving
Managers briefly discussed how roving is being initiated in their libraries and the feedback received from librarians.

Winter ReadFest – Anita Roesler, OUT

Anita expressed her appreciation to managers for encouraging their staff to promote the Winter ReadFest program and for their outstanding achievements during the program. SO increased 672% in participants over last year and had the higher number of participants again this year. VI increased 627%, CT increased 328% and DC increased 147%. JN had the higher participation of the extensions with a 94% increase. Anita distributed certificates of thanks to the libraries for their participation.

Anita stated that OUT is working on next year’s sign up gift bag and has submitted a grant request to Friends of the Library. Anita shared that during the Adult Services Librarians meeting, the programmers expressed interest in more training related to the Winter ReadFest program. Anita stated that she would be happy to facilitate training at each location.

Gift Register – Ernestine Clark, DEV
Ernestine informed managers that there is no longer a need to maintain the gift registry notebook that sits on wooden stands in most libraries. Kim Terry published in a recent Metro Magazine a list of people who actually donated money. Once a year the previous year’s donors will be listed. There is no need to return the wooden stands to DVS. Each Manager may decide whether and how to use them at their own site.

Denyvetta shared thank you cards and notes that BE, ED & RE received from many of their customers. Denyvetta also shared a sample of “Whale Done” notes designed by Deb Willis that she distributes to MC employees for a job well done.
