CONNECT Minutes - June 2014

Buddy Johnson welcomed the attendees. He reminded everyone about the mission and goals of the CONNECT Forum. Debra Spindle, Research Librarian, Oklahoma History Center was introduced and the floor was given to her to lead a tour of the Oklahoma History Center’s Research Division.

CONNECT Forum First Annual Field Trip - June 2014

June 10, 2014 at the Oklahoma History Center, 800 Nazih Zuhdi Drive 2:00-4:00 pm

Click the link for maps and directions. Parking is free and available on the east side of the History Center.  We will convene in the library. Just go left after entering the main doors for a presentation on the research library followed by a tour.

Manager of Library Operations Meeting Minutes - March 2014

Denyvetta welcomed and introduced BI’s new manager of Library Operations David Luurtsema and asked the managers to introduce themselves.

Donna reported that things are going well with the new carpet and extended her appreciation to the managers for being receptive to having DN staff working at their locations for the next four weeks.

There was an email sent out by Lori, HUM regarding the Executive Director Search Committee’s meetings with staff. Donna asked the managers to please send staff members who are interested in attending so that they may share input on the kind of qualities they feel are important in the decision of who should be our next Executive Director. She added that the Search Committee will actively begin their search for the new director this summer.

Manager of Library Operations Meeting Minutes - December 2013

Denyvetta shared with the managers that Aaron is attending the Forum meetings to observe the various formats. Aaron indicated that he has been participating and has spoken with several librarians who had great feedback regarding the “Librarian in Charge” topic.

Denyvetta informed the managers that this is Julie’s final meeting as a member of the CONNECT Forum Planning Committee. Julie expressed that it has been a great experience.
Denyvetta has received positive feedback on all three Forums, the CONNECT Forum, Circulation Forum and the PCS Forum.

Manager of Library Operations Meeting Minutes - June 2013

Donna greeted the managers and briefly discussed the Fiscal year 2014 budget. She informed that the there is a 3% tax on set evaluations which may not affect MLS as much and that the capitol budget decreased by 21%. The performance increase is the same as last year. There are a few new positions factored into this year’s budget. ILS system will be funded. The same amount is factored in to the budget for Capitol Hill, Del City and Jones. Capitol Hill contract for the Architectural fee will go before the City Council on July 2.

Manager of Library Operations Meeting Minutes for March 2013

Buddy informed the managers that the March CONNECT Forum was recently conducted at CH and Pauline, CAT gave a great introduction to the change in cataloging rules from AACR2 to RDA “Resource Description and Access”. He shared that the librarians played two games for subject headings and describing materials in the catalog and there were a lot of positive feedback from the participants as they seem to enjoy the sessions and sharing information about issues/concerns. The overall attendance included 14 librarians and 2 guests.

CONNECT Minutes for March 2013

Jana Hausburg, MLO, CH expressed a warm welcome to the CONNECT forum.

CONNECT began with introductions and a summary of the purpose and goal of this forum.

CONNECT is meant:
To serve as a platform for librarians to voice questions and concerns
To facilitate a learning and sharing environment for professional development, trends in libraries, customer service, legislative issues, and other topics
To foster a sense of camaraderie between and among the librarians at MLS

Manager of Library Operations Meeting Minutes for December 2012

Anita distributed to the managers an explanation sheet explaining how Winter Readfest 2013 works and stats for each library for the first 10 years of Winter Readfest. She shared that Winter Readfest 2012 including the fall 2010 Octoberfest marked 10 years for Metropolitan Library System. Anita informed that the time period has been extended from one month to six weeks beginning January 14 through February 25.

Materials for Readfest were routed to the libraries on December 13 and should arrive by December 19. Anita requested that handouts are placed at the circulation desk on December 28. She briefly discussed prizes and asked the managers to give customers a deadline to pick up their prizes.
