ILS Implementation/Circulation Policy Group Updates - April 2014

The Circulation Policy group has met twice, via teleconference, with representatives from TLC and we wanted to update everyone on some of the things we have been discussing and also give you insight from our limited perspective on what we can all expect when we go live in September.

TLC stands for The Library Corporation and we will be using their integrated library system called Carl.X. So far, we have seen that Carl.X is very flexible and has been able to accommodate everything that our system does now without overwhelming changes in the terminology and concepts that we currently use. Obviously this is new software for us, so everything looks different on the surface. The style of Carl.X reminds me of the Microsoft Office Suite which has universal options in a left pane and menu bars and specific options that run across the top of the window. As an example, here is a screenshot of one of the ‘setup’ menus.

Children's Services Meeting Minutes for December 2004

Volunteer procedure changes - Heidi Port, DVS (handout – packet)
Heidi Port passed out handouts and summarized the procedural changes for MLS volunteers. Forms will be available on Intranet and Internet (when appropriate). A request to have the Teen forms online in January. There are three types of volunteers: 1) Teen; 2) Adult; 3) Court appointed. The volunteer time sheets will now be due quarterly.

Background Checks and Badges: Adult volunteers have background checks and photo ID badges. Teen and court appointed volunteers do not have background checks and will use volunteer badges kept at the library. The background check form will automatically print with the adult volunteer application form. Send the background check form to Volunteer Services in a sealed white envelop. Do not keep the background check form or a copy of it in your office or library. Because background checks cost money, let Heidi know if you want one performed or if you do not need this individual for volunteer work.
