In the past when we have had tornadoes in our communities, the Metropolitan Library System has forgiven tornado lost and damaged materials that were not compensated by a customer's insurance. We will again do this.

Here's what to do when a customer states that the materials were damaged or lost in the tornado:

Clarification - Posters Displays, Guidelines

You may post posters or flyers of missing children as you have done in the past - according to guidelines - as you have room etc. However, we ask that you post them on a bulletin board not on the front door.

Tissue Issue and more tissue

Updated Date: 2012/June.The Library's long-standing decision is that lotion is not stocked in the supply room nor is the cost reimbursable to employees.

In 2006 we modified the decision on purchasing/reimbursing facial tissues (i.e. Kleenex). Tissue may be purchased and reimbursed so long as the following conditions are met:

•the tissue needs to be placed out of public sight on the public floor
•for parent/child workshops, the tissue may be set out for their use

Spray Glue Directive/Recommendation Safety

The following is a directive/recommendation from the Safety Committee which met 10/29/96: Until further notice, do not use spray glue unless it can be used at an open window so the fumes can vent outside the building and, only then, with extreme caution. This will be an agenda item for discussion again at the 11/18/96 Safety Meeting.

Library Anniversaries Programs, Programming, Event

Library Anniversary: Anniversaries of agencies will be celebrated on 25, 50, 75, 100, etc. on a larger scale (i.e. an event). If individual agencies would like to have a community celebration (cake and punch, etc.) on smaller increments they are welcome to plan that as a program, but they will not be considered a larger scale event.

Steps to take if an iPad is not returned MediaSurfers, iPads

Look up which customer has the iPad in Carl.X. The iPads are listed with the title of “MLS iPad” in Carl.X. You can do a Title Word search for “MLS iPad” in Carl.X on the Item Information screen.  Highlight the item that is still checked out and “double-click” on the item.  This will bring up the “Item Detail” screen.  Click the “Who Has It” button to determine who has it checked out.  You can also click the “Patron Info” button from the “Who Has It” screen to access the customer’s contact information.

L&D funds may be used for conferences, workshops, online courses, webinars, and other work-related educational events; if you’re unsure, please contact the Employee Development Coordinator.

L&D requests are only needed when the staff member is seeking library payment or reimbursement for registration fees, travel costs, and other associated expenses.

Visitor Check-In Procedures at the Downtown Library

The purpose of this memorandum is to introduce enhancements to security at the Ronald J. Norick Downtown Library. Starting on Tuesday, May 1st, 2018 all visitors requiring access to non-public areas within the Downtown Library will be required to check-in and wear an identification badge (please see the Visitor Check-in Guidelines for more important details).
