Managers of Library Operations Minutes - March 25, 2015

Meeting called to order at 1:30p.m., by Denyvetta Davis, Director of Library Operations

Denyvetta introduced and welcomed Chris Stofel, the new Manager of Library Operations for the Extension Libraries.  She later introduced and welcomed the new Manager of Library Operations, Brandon Beckham who began his new position at AL on March 2.  Brandon is the former assistant manager at SO.

The managers welcomed and introduced themselves to our new managers and Denyvetta introduced the guests.

Customer Appreciation Month

The managers discussed the candy and pens give-a-ways during Customer Appreciation Month.  The managers stated candy was all given out and there are pens still available.  They expressed that the customers seemed really happy receiving the give-a-ways.  

Schedule Anywhere

Denyvetta reminded everyone the November schedule should be entered utilizing Schedule Anywhere.  

Melody-ED, shared that some of the explanations in Schedule Anywhere were deleted and because this is a shared file, she asked the managers to not change any of the explanations.

Manager of Library Operations - July 2014

Denyvetta informed the managers that this is LaVetta’s, AL, and Emily’s, VI, final MLO meeting.  LaVetta was promoted to the Director of Outreach and Emily is returning home to Boston to be with her family.  Emily shared her gratitude for these past two years and how she really appreciates the opportunity.  She will always speak highly of the system.  

Manager of Library Operations Meeting Minutes - December 2013

Denyvetta shared with the managers that Aaron is attending the Forum meetings to observe the various formats. Aaron indicated that he has been participating and has spoken with several librarians who had great feedback regarding the “Librarian in Charge” topic.

Denyvetta informed the managers that this is Julie’s final meeting as a member of the CONNECT Forum Planning Committee. Julie expressed that it has been a great experience.
Denyvetta has received positive feedback on all three Forums, the CONNECT Forum, Circulation Forum and the PCS Forum.

Manager of Library Operations Meeting Minutes for November 2012

Denyvetta introduced and welcomed Aaron Bluitt, who began his new role as Assistant Director of Library Operations on Monday, November 12, 2012. The managers introduced themselves to Aaron and shared with him the location they manage; their years of service with MLS; their strengths and center. Aaron briefly shared his background with the managers and expressed that it is a blessing and privilege to be a part of Metropolitan Library System.

Manager of Library Operations Meeting Minutes for October 2012

The managers visited Luther Library and met Extension Specialists, Angie Paeltz and Dennis Delano. Angie extended a warm welcome to everyone and shared information regarding the Luther Library before leading the managers to Luther High School Auditorium where the managers’ meeting was held.

The managers arrived at Luther High School where they were given a tour of the Auditorium and control room before the meeting.

Karen Marriott and Janet Brooks from Material Selection and Jimmy Welch and Anne Fischer from IT gave a hands on demonstration of the new iWeed application using the iPad. iPads will be purchased for each location and pre-loaded with the iWeed application. This application will replace shelf management lists and inventory lists on green bar paper. Information about the items in each list will be updated daily. Items can be coded missing and withdrawn directly from the application and items can be added to the batch file for replacement. List can be emailed in an Excel format for additional work or to submit to supervisor or Material Selection. Janet will send email alerts. These lists will be due to Janet two months after the alert.

Denyvetta led a discussion of an article entitled ―Public Libraries are Doomed‖ that appeared in the September issue of Library Hotline. Denyvetta encouraged managers to discuss the importance of change and staying relevant with their staff.

Manager of Library Operations Meeting Minutes for June 2011

Phil reminded the managers of the agreed all system theme for customer appreciation month, “Celebrate! Top ten reasons we ♥ our customers.” Doug Bentin will create a top ten list. Each library will receive one 24” x 36” poster or the managers may select another size. There will be bookmarks available. Libraries will use their individual budgets for any specific activities during the month.

Performance Standards Update
Denyvetta distributed a performance standards spreadsheet with purposed changes. She informed that measurements have been removed and specific guidelines will be developed by the MLO Advisory Group and presented in a separate document. The managers were asked for their thoughts on the revised standards. All agreed standardized measurements for staff would be best instead of different measurements at each location. Any ideas may be forwarded to Denyvetta.

Cash Deposit Committee Update
Denyvetta distributed the cash deposit and accuracy spreadsheet prepared by Stuart, PLA. She shared that the format of the monthly cash deposit would be updated through the efforts of Stuart, the Cash Deposit Committee, and the Business Office.

Manager of Library Operations Meeting Minutes for May 2011

Denyvetta introduced Karen Peck, representative for Findaway World, the creators of Playaway.
Ms. Peck distributed to the managers informational folders for Playaway and Playaway View as she shared her company’s history. Playaway has an all-in-one high definition audio with titles that also comes in print and features five narrative speeds. Playaway View is kid-friendly with an all-in-one portable video player preloaded with multiple educational videos for children with up to six hours of content. There are over 100 titles in Spanish, mostly for adults.

The products were passed around for managers to get a hands-on view of how they operate. Ms. Peck informed that these products are scheduled to launch on May 16 with 100 different titles and shared that each unit is priced at $99.99. Marketing materials are available at www.circulationstation.com.
