Signing Savvy is back and better than ever! The American Sign Language learning and support site now comes with app access. Customers can learn sign language anywhere, anytime.

REMINDER: Homelessness Webinar Mar. 1 (RE location no longer available)

The webinar titled, “Working with Individuals Affected by Homelessness” will be available to staff Mar. 1, 2018 from 1:30 – 2:30 PM at five library locations. Staff interested in attending should get supervisor approval. There is not a sign-up form for attending, staff can simply show up to the event.

Database Highlight #32: We've got the Remarkable Life for That

February’s final database highlight is Biography Reference Bank. This is the place to go when all your Black History Month biographies are checked out or you come across a student needing information on an African American inventor by tomorrow.  With the ability to filter by occupation, gender, and place of origin, the database scans the lives of over 750,000 individuals to return targeted results.

Are you ready to rock this Summer? Join Jenifer Strauss and Will Stuck for the 2018 Music Summer Reading Workshops!

The program includes activity suggestions for STEAM programming, creating musical instruments from unusual recycled materials, suggestions for theme-appropriate books and insights on development for early literacy.

Database Highlight #31: We've got the Genealogy for That

This week’s database highlight, African American Heritage, provides unique sources and support for African American genealogy. The database ties together historical records from the census and military, as well as, the slave register and Freedman’s Bank. In addition to records, researchers are connected to the AfriGeneas Community - a website offering advice, forums, and other ways to exchange information.

More Sessions Added! Tech Training

Need to build your tech skills, or just need a refresher? Staff registration is open for a tech training launching Tuesday, Feb. 13 at Bethany Library (other sessions listed below). Staff interested in registering will need supervisor approval. Registration is completed through EduBrite. To review instructions for enrolling use the guide HERE.

Access Training Documents Now Available

The new Access Training is finally upon us! While we wish we could train everyone interested in the first round of training this Spring, we realized that we have limited resources – both in training laptops and in how many people can be out of a library at a time.

Knowing that many people are interested in the training, we have posted all the training manuals, which includes the following documents.

Learning Express Update

This Valentine’s Day LearningExpress is showing the love with a shiny new update! You’ll notice the changes right away. The carousel, which required users to flip through modules and know what they were looking for, has been replaced with a prominent search box and a clear, visual table of topics.
