Intranet Update - August 13th

In June, we completed a server migration of the Intranet and ran into several issues on our host’s side.  We postponed our migration until we could complete further testing and to better understand the issues we experienced.   I’m happy to report that we have resolved these issues and are ready to finalize our migration.  This migration it set to complete Sunday, August 13th at 9pm.

What to Expect:

Hello, RBDigital / See Ya, Zinio

Starting today, August 2nd, active Zinio app users will receive a message guiding them to download the new RBdigital app. If you are an active Zinio user and do not see the notification, try completely closing the app and relaunching. While the Zinio app will remain active for a time, it will not be supported in any way so it’s important members understand they do need to make the switch sooner rather than later. While inconvenient, there shouldn’t be any serious issues with moving – no magazine downloads will be lost.

*UPDATED* Timeline for conversions to Summer Reader, Signup, Spaces & TLC

I suspect you may have additional questions about our next steps with regard to all of the upcoming moves toward using new software for events and reserving meeting rooms as well as the new ILS.  At this time there are some answers and still tons of questions.  Here is what we have decided so far:

Materials Services Division Managers' Meeting Minutes for March 2012

Replacement of defective AMPs (Playaways)

Janet mentioned that libraries have been reporting that some of the AMPs are defective. MLS is guaranteed free replacement indefinitely after purchase of these items. Janet asked what procedure libraries should follow when an AMP needs to be replaced.

The group discussed various issues involved and agreed on procedures as follows:
If a player is discovered to be defective within 5 months after purchase, the library will return the entire item (player and container) to TP. TP will order a replacement player, and return the item to the library when the replacement is received.

Materials Services Division Managers' Meeting Minutes for February 2012

Discussion with Donna about transfers - Karen
Karen said a decision will be made within the next few weeks. If the new long range plan includes opening of new “storefront” locations, this will be a major factor in the decision. Jones will probably not receive many transferred materials even when they move to their new building.

Review of gift guidelines with staff - Pauline
Pauline has met with the Cataloging Technicians and stressed that IS gifts are to be added to the collection only if they are in excellent condition, there are few available copies within the system, and the material matches an existing bib record. Mass marked paperbacks will be added to the cataloged collection only if the title has previously been cataloged in mass marked format, or if the addition is approved by a Materials Services Manager.

Circulation Forum Minutes for February 2012

Welcome

Julie Ballou welcomed everyone to Circ Forum, thanked DC for hosting and Patty Ortiz for bringing refreshments. She asked all clerks present to introduce themselves.
V-Circ Proposal Update

Tech Group has accepted the revised proposal and Jimmy Welch is working on a prototype. Manager’s Comment box did not get approved. V-Circ will open to the message page similar to the Stops pop-up box for notification.

Changes to VCirc regarding System Reserves

With the introduction of self-pickup of reserves, there has been an increase of customers taking reserves that don't belong to them, taking the labels off and then bringing them to the circulation desk. When self-pickup was first introduced, both VCirc and the Express Checkout did not let customers check out reserves that were not reserved on their card. However, staff requested that this be removed from VCirc because family members checked out for each other and they felt the block was more of a problem than a help so the block was removed from VCirc.
