Changes to VCirc regarding System Reserves

With the introduction of self-pickup of reserves, there has been an increase of customers taking reserves that don't belong to them, taking the labels off and then bringing them to the circulation desk. When self-pickup was first introduced, both VCirc and the Express Checkout did not let customers check out reserves that were not reserved on their card. However, staff requested that this be removed from VCirc because family members checked out for each other and they felt the block was more of a problem than a help so the block was removed from VCirc.
There has now been a request to have VCirc block when a customer brings up a book to checkout that has a reserve that does not belong to them. VCirc has been modified to pop-up a message to staff alerting them that the reserve does not belong to the card being used. Unlike Express Checkout, VCirc will allow staff to override the block if they know that the customer is picking up the item for a family member. While VCirc will alert the staff member that the item is reserved by a different library card, it will still be the responsibility of the staff member to confirm if the reserve can be checked out by that customer or the customer needs to be told that the reserve does not belong to them.
This change will be implemented on Tuesday, August 16th. Please contact IT at 2210 if you have any questions.
