Metro MakerSpace: What's in a Name?

Wanted: Your Creativity

Why: We need a name for “potential” MakerSpace rooms at Metro, the first of which will be located in the new Bethany Library.

Background: A committee has been working on system guidelines for MakerSpaces, and one of the topics is what to name the space. The committee recommends using the same name for any MakerSpace areas that are developed in the future. The team agreed that we have a lot of staff members who are very creative, so we would like to hear your suggestions for naming the space!

Safety Committee Meeting Minutes for November 24, 2009

Review of last meeting minutes – Ric reported pricing on plastic tweezers to be used to remove sharps from book drops. Rick will order a supply of the tweezers and let the library managers know they are available.

To date, we have had no significant impact on business operations due to the flu outbreak. All libraries are using extra precautions such as providing hand sanitizer in public areas and performing additional cleaning of keyboards, headsets, etc. Ric is researching pricing on hand sanitizer stands to determine if it is feasible to purchase those for each library.

Materials Services Division Updates for December 2007

Since no Materials Services Division Managers meeting was held during December, this document contains updates on the activities of each department since the November meeting.

Materials Selection
Submitted by Janet Brooks

Library Visits

During November, selectors made an annual visit RE and a 6month visit to SO. Because RE has been without a manager, the visit was primarily a collection review. Janet spent about an hour with each of the librarians to review collection maintenance processes and gave each one a copy of the Collection Maintenance and Management notebook.

During December, selectors are scheduled to do an annual visit to WA and a 6month collection review of BE.

In January they conduct an annual visit to BI and a 6month to CH.
