Safety Committee Meeting Minutes for October 18, 2011

At the last meeting, the committee discussed the use of the wheelchair at the Downtown Library. There had been some concern about the cleanliness of the chair and the possible liability issues related to the public use of the chair. Chris agreed to research which libraries have a chair and what issues, if any, they have.

Currently, only Downtown and Village have a wheelchair and there have been no reported issues with their use. It was decided that there is no need for a blanket policy regarding the use of wheelchairs in the libraries.

Safety Committee Meeting Minutes for March 15, 2011

When a siren is sounded, people should take shelter immediately and seek more information. With more information, they can decide what further protective measures to take. When the sirens stop, it does not indicate the threat of a tornado has passed. Sirens may be activated more than once, as new or additional threats are indentified. Cities and counties will never sound an “all clear” signal.

This information can be found at the City of Oklahoma City website – www.okc.gov.

Safety Committee Meeting Minutes for November 9, 2010

At our last meeting we discussed some confusion about the amount of training required upon return to work from an accident. Currently, the procedure “suggests” 15 minutes of safety training upon returning to work and additional 30 minutes of training due during the quarter following the accident.

After discussion, the committee decided to change the procedure to require 30 minutes of safety training relating to the accident upon return to work. This training does not satisfy the regular quarterly safety training requirement. Denise will make the necessary changes to the intranet training instructions.

Safety Committee Meeting Minutes for July 13, 2010

At our last meeting, we discussed the time credit allowing for Safety Powerpoint presentations on the intranet. Due to the limited content of the presentations, a maximum of five minutes had been allowed for each presentation.

Since then, there have been many questions from staff about the time limit and, after further review by the committee, the decision was made to remove the limit for training time on powerpoint presentations.

Denise will update the safety training library page to indicate “actual time” on the duration of each topic. She will also send e-mail notification to all staff about the change effective July 1, 2010.

Safety Committee Meeting Minutes for May 11, 2010

Candace, Stacy Schrank, and Kelley Hoffman attended a Spring Wellness Conference in April. The conference was presented by the Oklahoma City-County Health Department and provided tools and ideas for starting a wellness program and becoming a Certified Healthy Business. We will meet in July with a wellness management company that can help us design and administer a wellness program for the library system.

Safety Committee Meeting Minutes for March 9, 2010

We have two new members who have agreed to serve on the committee for one year. Welcome to Jamar Rahming and Phil Tolbert.

Everyone received a copy of the last meeting minutes to review. Annual updates have been completed for the Safety Manual and MSDS books for all libraries and departments.

We discussed the idea of starting a wellness program for the library system. There are a number of resources available at little or no cost that could be used in our organization. Candace, Stacy Schrank and Kelley Hoffman will attend a Spring Wellness Conference sponsored by the Oklahoma City-County Health Department.

Safety Committee Meeting Minutes for September 21, 2009

The committee reviewed the Safety Audit Checklists that were ordered from Business 21 Publishing. Although not all the checklists apply to the library, many of them are well written for our application and will be incorporated into the MLS Safety Manual for use with quarterly facility inspections. This addition will be rolled out as we are updating the Safety Manual and MSDS in January.
