Library Giving Day - Wednesday, April 7, 2021

As many of you may know, April 4 to10 is National Library Week. On Wednesday, April 7th, we will be participating in the 3rd annual Library Giving Day! The Library Endowment Trust has embraced this international movement that originated in the International Public Library Fundraising forum. They are seeking to raise $20,000 from the community this year and are asking donors and prospects to support their favorite Metropolitan Library System location.

Updates Coming to Libby

Libby is getting an upgrade soon with design changes and new features, including smart tagging, wishlist and tag syncing, search improvements, and notifications for the next issue of a magazine.

Update to Missing Pieces Process

We have a high number of missing items sent to Collection Services Department (CSD) that are never reunited. Customers aren’t returning the missing piece. CSD averages a 28% reunited rate with an average of 38 items sent to them weekly. After three months on the CSD shelf, a manual fine for the replacement cost is added to the customer’s account.

Trailers Now on Kanopy

Trailers are now available on some titles in Kanopy.

Before a customer uses up one of their play credits starting a video they may not know much about, they can look for the Trailer button ​to watch a preview without having to leave the Kanopy site.

Shelving Order Guide and Shelving Training Updates

We have made updates to the Shelving Order Guide. Here is a breakdown of the changes:

  • Included the number “#” symbol to be treated as a special character.
  • Updated to explain how to handle numbers mid-title in fiction and non-DVD titles.
  • Added examples to multiple sections.
  • Created a section specifically for Music CDs.

The following rule changes will take effect March 25, 2021:
