Leadership Team Minutes - January 20, 2021

News: 

• Kimberly Boldt will be starting as the Director of EPS & Outreach on January 25th.  She comes to MLS from Milwaukee Public Library and also has academic library experience. 

• Joy Harjo, the current US Poet Laureate, will be participating in a virtual author talk with MLS on April 25, 2021.  She will read from some of her work and possibly speak as well.  Plans are to market the program heavily. 

• Larry will be visiting MLS sites.  He may be bringing other Leadership staff with him.  The visits are mostly focused on public services but he will also be visiting the Service Center and set up visits with Downtown departments at a later time. 

Financial Analysis: 

• Larry provided a document that shows MLS Expenditure Analysis using 2019 data from the ODL report.  The information had costs broken down by cost per square foot of space, per library visit, and per total collection use.   

• Each use of the collection cost $4.98 but this cost may not include all costs for cataloging and processing. 

• Each library visit in 2019 cost the library system $13.18. 

• The cost per square foot of occupied space to operate all of MLS was $113.64. 

Operational Costing Estimate for Edmond 2: 

• Charisse prepared a spreadsheet for cost estimates of operating a second library in Edmond.  The spreadsheet can have the proposed square footage changed so that you can see change in costs based on various sizes for the building. 

• There was discussion about various options we could look at for this building based on the usage of the Edmond community and Leadership will be looking at this more in the coming months as discussions move forward with the City of Edmond. 

A document with feedback from Public Services staff was shared and discussed by Leadership Team.  It will be discussed further at the next meeting.
