Library Mission activity – Larry
Larry led the group through an activity to identify the most important attributes of a new MLS Mission statement.
Department Updates:
Business Office: nothing to report
Development & Volunteer Services:
- The Friends of the Library board voted to dissolve the Special Friends of Ralph Ellison.
- The Friends are now having to pay for recycling of discards and unsold book sale books.
- DVS will be reaching out to locations and departments to seek budget input in the next six weeks.
Human Resources:
- Welcomed new HR Manager, Jeff Cover.
- Is currently recruiting for 23 positions.
Learning & Development:
- Survey results from Staff Development Day sent out for SDD planning committee for review. - - L&D is working with Public Services on a proposal to modify the onboarding process.
IT:
- Successful opening at BE on Saturday. Tying up loose ends this week.
- Preparing now for ED closure.
- Working to get replacement computers installed across the system.
Operations:
- Successful BE grand opening. Tying up loose ends this week.
- WR in process of getting new HVAC. The library will remain open during this process.
- SO closed 11/20 – 11/24 for parking lot resurfacing.
- Meeting on 11/22 about ED temporary location – finalizing details, access to building, etc.
- Winding down 23rd Street BE location to dispose of items. Have until end of December to completely vacate location.
- DC groundbreaking December 2nd at 2PM.
- BI project still finalizing details (now in design development). OKC is looking at early summer of 2020 for awarding of contract and groundbreaking. City has requested a three-month lead time to abate the building in preparation for the demo/remodel process. Address of temporary location is 3621 NW Expressway (old Lifeway Bookstore). Lease agreement for temp. site will be voted on at Commission meeting in December, with a goal of MLS taking possession January 1. Space assessments of the temp. site are forthcoming.
Maintenance:
- About to start new MTC Admin Assistant, Kristin Sutliff. Kristin will be housed at the Service Center.
- MC HVAC equipment has been ordered – more details to come about installation date/process.
Planning & Assessment:
- Monitoring the recent delivery process changes
- Facilitating the ongoing customer service surveys for MLS departments and looking at posting results on intranet in a centralized place easily accessible to all.
- Enterprise risk management analysis project in the works
Security:
- Commission will vote at the November meeting to switch security companies to Tricorps Security. This switch would be effective January 1st.
Marketing:
- Working on location signage for temporary ED location, and wayfinding signage at BE, VI, MC, CH.
Public Services and libraries:
- The architectural firm that oversaw the CH remodel - Guernsey - toured CH recently. They also donated books to the library.
- SO parking lot – planning to be closed until 11/25 but will reopen as quickly as possible
- New regional assignments effective 11/18.
- RDs moving to 4th floor in old DVS space, with current spaces being redistributed amongst HUM and Public Services.
- Working on job description for Manager of Outreach – will be posted soon. The position is being created by repurposing a vacant FTE in the department and does not represent an additional FTE.
- VI gas leak on 11/19 quickly mitigated with the assistance of MTC.
- BE grand opening attracted 2,713 people, with 2k items checked out and 1,300 items returned

- LEAP applications open
- CH public art meetings – 4 finalists to propose projects for CH
