Holiday season is here! For many it’s not only a season of gift giving, lights, and tons of cookies but an important secular holiday filled with nativities, menorahs, and kinaras. The next few database highlights will focus on the resources we offer for members who want to study religion.  To start off, this week’s highlight is Oxford Biblical Studies.

Metro Video - Kay Talks About Policy Updates

In this short video release, Kay discusses some upcoming changes to library policies. They will go to the A&P Committee for review next week, but they will not be approved by the full Commission until Dec. 14.

Reminder: Today is PressReader's last day

Just a reminder, today is the last day the library can offer PressReader. Starting tomorrow, members will not be able to to read PressReader newspapers/magazines without a personal subscription. 

Here are the marketing statements to use when talking about the cancellation. 

If the member is asking for a reason:

Unfortunately, we can no longer offer PressReader due to a contract dispute. We are very sorry for any inconvenience and will let you know as soon as we find a suitable replacement.

Upgrade to Carl.X on Wednesday Night

This message is for all staff that have Carl.X staff client installed on their computer.  TLC will be upgrading the software on Wednesday night which require a re-install of the staff client.  Please make sure you close all software on your computer when you leave on Wednesday as the upgrade will require a re-boot of your computer before the software is re-installed.  During this upgrade, the system will be down from 10pm Wednesday evening until 1am Thursday morning (3 hours).

Database Highlight #21: We go Statewide for That

Back in October, the Oklahoma Department of Libraries announced the new statewide contract with Ebsco. The new contract provides Metro with a wealth of Ebsco databases and this year they’ve added 8 new databases!

PressReader Disappearing December 1st

I’m disappointed to say that, come December 1st, the library will no longer be able to offer PressReader. We were unable to come to a contract agreement. I know many members depended on PressReader for local, national, and international news. I am on the hunt for a replacement but so far nothing matches what PressReader was able to provide, not only in terms of content, but mobility and usability.

Thanksgiving is almost here! The recipe books are in high demand and our digital collections are no exception. Our digital magazine collection, RBdigital (formerly called Zinio), is full of great cooking magazines:
