May 29 – Public Services Committee meeting @ Belle Isle
REPORTS

ADMINISTRATION/COMMISSION – Donna reported she will be attending National Legislative Day in Washington next week.

Administration is asking commission at the May meeting to authorize staff to negotiate a lease for the temporary location of the Ralph Ellison Library.

Donna and Lloyd are finishing up their individual department budget meetings this afternoon.

FINANCE & SUPPORT – Lloyd reported he is continuing to work on the budget. Lloyd will be attending required annual financial training on Thursday and Friday.

PLA Conference - Denyvetta shared information from several workshops she attended at the PLA Conference. Workshops consisted of Record Retention and the Patriot Act; Customer Service and Customer Surveys. She also attended a Table Top Topic regarding Homelessness. The discussion emphasized an importance in partnering with the existing homeless alliance. Kay highlighted the various workshops she attended while at PLA. The workshops consisted of “Customer Satisfaction”; Roving – “Off Your Seat, On Your Feet”; “21st Century Library Design”; and “Why We Borrow”.

Service Principles – Daily Link for Wednesday, March 12 -Candace McDaniel brought a group activity for today’s Daily Link. The activity was Trivial Pursuit. In this activity, Ad Team members tested their knowledge of the Library System. Each Ad Tem member drew a card which listed a customer profile (ie, College Student, Child, Artist, etc). The group was asked to list the features and benefits the library can offer each customer to enhance their experience at the library.

New Items

P& P Committee – Rules of Conduct - Kay handed out draft copies of the revised Rules of Conduct policy and procedures. The library’s attorney has reviewed the policy and procedures; Kay is asking Ad Team to review them and send any comments or suggestions to one of the P & P Committee members (Donna, Karen, Kay or Kim).
Service Basics – Kay, Denyvetta, Kim and Candace - Kay Bauman, Denyvetta Davis, Kim Terry, and Candace McDaniel gave a presentation over the new Service Principles initiative. The Service Principles initiative will begin on March 3 and will help create a system-wide approach to service and to meet the goals of the new strategic plan. Employees will hear more about the Service Principles in the coming weeks. Denyvetta Davis has introduced the initiative to the Library Managers and the group will be taking the information to X-change on February 18.

Budget Schedule ~ Lloyd - Lloyd handed out copies of the Budget Schedule for FY 2008-2009. The schedule remains the same as last year.
ALA Mid-Winter ~ Denyvetta - Denyvetta reported on the various meetings and activities she participated in at ALA Mid-Winter.
Attended the BCALA Retreat
Participated in the selection of the Coretta Scott King awards
Visited various exhibits
Attended a forum for the Presidential Candidates for ALA
Attended a Town Hall Meeting
Facilitated a Table Top meeting regarding Networking and Partnerships
