2015-2016 Travel Planning for Budget

Please use the following examples of typical costs to attend a professional library conference during 2015-2016.  These are estimates only and are likely to be more or less by the time of the conference.   Remember to prepare your travel request according to the Travel and Related Expenditure Guidelines in the P & P Manual, adjust for differences in the number of nights/days of travel and share a room when possible.    Also, remember to add monies for miscellaneous travel in your budget request.

Midwest City Closing

Midwest City Library will be closed for two weeks from Monday, April 13 - Sunday, April 26, 2015 to get new carpet & floor tiles, replace the ceiling tiles and new paint on the walls in the back work room areas.

This is our first closure with our new ILS so there are a few changes to our process.

National Reading Awareness Month

MetroFamily Magazine writer, Callie Collins, posted an article with great tips on ways to fit reading into everyday routines. She has some fun book recommendations & links to a few other great articles advocating literacy and libraries too. Her article has some important reminders for us. She demonstrates how important our role is in shaping our community and enhancing their lives through literacy and the services we offer.

RIP Who's Who - Hello New Ways to Find Contact Information

We are all saddened to lose our good friend and favorite contact resource, Who's Who.  In the wake of saddness, new ways to find contact information have emerged.  Here's some help:

Using MyMetrolibrary for Library and Departmental Contact Information

You can access specific library location and departmental contact information through MyMetrolibrary in the Quick Links menu under Location Phone Numbers.

MLS Planning Survey -- We Need Your Ideas

As you may know, library administration will be working on a new strategic plan beginning in the fall of 2015, and we will be extending our current plan through the budget year 2015-16 (ending June 2016). In order to help identify some of the items we should work on over the next year, and to provide some preliminary information for this autumn’s strategic planning initiative, we have prepared a short survey to get your input. Please feel free to answer any or all of the questions below. There are no right or wrong answers – we’re looking for your thoughts and ideas to help shape the services we will deliver, how we should deliver them, and why they are important to you and the community we serve. We will share the responses back with you, along with our analysis, by the second week in April in order to get some further comments. Thanks in advance for your input.

Tim Rogers on Mayor's Magazine

Tim Rogers recently spoke with Mayor Cornett on the Mayor's video magazine. They discuss digital services now and in the future and Mick asked the burning question- Who is using the library? Great job representing us Tim!

Paycom Training Sessions / Logins

Update 2-14-15:  In addition to the announcement on the Intranet in January about our migration to Paycom, you might find it helpful to know that our implementation timeline is also impacted by changes to laws.  One of those changes occurred with the Affordable Care Act.  Starting January 1, 2015, MLS was required by law to track data that will be reported to individuals and the IRS at the end of the year.
