MLS/LO Partners - Updates

Daily Deposit Documentation – Denise Ryan & Jeffery Mullins-BO

Jeffery and Denise extended their appreciation to everyone for going above and beyond in accommodating the BO during the transition to the new system.  They distributed and briefly discussed with the managers the documentation print outs explaining the enhancement and explanations for daily deposits. 

Children's Services Meeting Minutes for February 2014

Kristin created a display of some of the award winning books (Newbery, Caldecott, Coretta Scott King, Belpré, Geisel, & Seibert awards) for librarians to look at and check out as they wanted. Kristin is starting to plan for Fall 1-2-3 Play With Me and passed a sign-up sheet for librarians to choose when they would like to have it at their library. For those who did not commit dates at the meeting can let Kristin know their dates by the end of February. The City County Health Department has resource professionals in Child Guidance available for a fee and Nutritionists which are free.

CONNECT Minutes - December 2013

Welcome
Buddy Johnson welcomed the attendees and introduced the guests followed by a reminder about the mission and goals of the Connect Forum. He also went over the rules for the forum and explained that the topic for the forum would be “librarian in charge.”

Attendees introduced themselves to the rest of the group.

Librarian In Charge Discussion
Attendees sat in 6 groups of 6-7 people and Meghan Attala explained that each group would be discussing some scenarios librarians in charge may face entitled “What Do You Do!?”

Hardware Jewelry

Angela (CH) showed examples of toolbox jewelry program that was really successful and provided information about how to do this program. The book that she used for the program is no longer in print, but can be ordered through ILL. Emily (OUT) also suggested checking interest for other craft ideas.
Events Coordinator Position – Discussion

Several questions were raised about how this position will affect our jobs and the reasons why this position was created. Several suggestions were made to discuss these concerns with your manager.

Young Adult Services Meeting Minutes for November 3, 2010

Emily made some brief announcements to open the meeting: Janet says Melissa will be returning soon to MSL, ODL has a children’s & YA book review podcast, Maureen Johnson will be coming to MLS from April 5-7, 2011, and all of the YA services team should read at least one of her books before the visit.

Dana had some announcements as well: Elaine Hoffman-Watts and the Fabulous Speilkehs are coming for Our World, SO is still looking for a temporary building, and the YA services team should email Dana if they’re like to be added to her email list for when presenters are coming.

Kiona Millirons talked about workshop ideas for teen programming. These included collaborative postcards, post-crossing, paper bead crafts with a “sense of place” and unusual, wearable art to represent the artist’s/participant’s community, etc.

Young Adult Services Retreat Minutes for March 3, 2010

Announcements:
Programmers discussed a text list for those who could receive and send text messages. Emily took up a list and emailed it to those wishing to participate. A closed group Facebook page was set up for programmers and outreach to chat back and forth with ideas and programming questions.

Emily reminded programmers of ODL’s wiki, chat, and Twitter accounts.

There will be a Wizard Rock tour this summer and the groups will be in the OKC area July 24th if anyone would like to host the program.

Emily will begin to visit the Juvenile Detention centers again. Once per quarter, and if any programmer would like to visit as well they need to contact her at outreach.

Adult Services Minutes for May 2009

Watt’s Green Issues: Dana acknowledged the district-wide issues (i.e. no-shows) concerning the Watt’s Green Seminar series. The president of OK Green has been notified of the problems and is attempting to rectify the situation.

Winter Readfest 2009: Dana initiated an informal discussion about the Winter Readfest program. Dana suggested that everyone in attendance should start thinking about potential gifts for the 2010 Winter Readfest program. Possible prizes discussed were ipods, Flip cameras, or other products in the $200 range. Due to a tepid response to the MLS tumblers, Phyllis suggested that fewer, more expensive items be purchased in lieu of the tumblers. Harry requested any leftover Winter Readfest bags for giveaways at the 2010 Asian Festival.

Welcome and Announcements:
Emily introduced the guests and the new librarian from Ralph Ellison, Kim Ventrella.

Dana mentioned the Design Your NW Library link on the Metrolibrary.org website and encouraged everyone to contribute their ideas.

Emily presented the Del.icio.us website that she created for all the YA librarians to use as a resource. Del.icio.us/metroya is the website and she will be maintaining it with useful links for everyone to use.

Guest Presentation:
Kiona Millirons presented her programming ideas for Summer 2008. The first program is to recycle men’s ties and sew them into different creatures. The second program is to create personal shrines or altered art out of recycled materials, boxes, photographs etc. John Hilbert (SO) mentioned that he had Kiona do this program for the teens at his library with great success. Kiona shared some books in our library that have examples of this type of art.
