Speakaboos Discontinuing and Early Childhood E-resource Trials

Collection Development has been informed that Speakaboos will unfortunately be discontinued soon. Speakaboos uses Flash Player, an Adobe product that will not be supported after the end of this year. We’ve stopped actively promoting Speakaboos on social media and in new customer emails, but it’s still available for current customers for the time being. The vendor is unable to provide us with a final end date for Speakaboos at this time, so we’re using the opportunity to look at other e-resources appropriate for early childhood that the library could start offering.

Manual Fines Proposal

In the spring of 2020, Collection Development and Access Services reviewed the use of the reduced pricing for the $7 disc replacement and reduced costs for damaged Playaways. The $7 disc replacement is rarely used, and at times, used incorrectly. The reduced pricing of Playaways is overwhelmingly not applied and customers are charged the full amount of the item. Further details are in the attached proposal.

America's News was recently updated to include color image editions of some newspapers--most notably for us, the Tulsa World and The Oklahoman. The text edition of The Oklahoman goes back to 1981, but the image edition is new to Newsbank.
