Eclipse Party

There was a recent article that mentioned that the public could get free eclipse glasses at their local library.  As a result, we have received a number of questions from library members interested in receiving eclipse viewing glasses.  Every location hosting the Science Museum Oklahoma Eclipse Party program in the month of August is receiving 100 eclipse viewing glasses.  Locations not hosting that program can still request eclipse viewing glasses by emailing me.    If your location is hosting the Eclipse Party hand out the viewing glasses at the program, one per person.  Any viewing glasses left over after that program may be handed out as you see fit.  Here is a link to the event calendar for the eclipse programs.

Happy 4th of July and happy new fiscal year! Many of you have expressed a desire to learn more about our Research offerings but don’t know where to start; so in the coming weeks, we’ll be highlighting one topical database and one free open web resource.  Let’s kick off the year by celebrating “America’s Birthday” with U.S. History in Context.

Alignment: Departmental Location Transition Plan - Update

As promised during the presentation last week, I wanted to keep everyone up-to-date on our progress as we finalize the details for each of the departments that will be relocating over the course of the next two months. We have finalized the plans for the first tier of Department moves. The table below summarizes the schedule for next week.  Each department has received a detailed checklist that explains the timeline of events (see attached for a template).

Zinio App Rebranding to RBdigital

Staring on July 10th (UPDATE: As of July 26th, this message has yet to be sent to users), Zinio app users will see a message guiding them to download Recorded Books Digital’s (RBD) new RBdigital app. This migration is a part of the company’s plan to merge all their content into one centralized location.  While RBD is anticipating a smooth merge, there’s always the possibility of down times, glitches, etc. During the actual merge, starting June 26th at 8 p.m., users can anticipate a down time of 14 hours (8 pm on 6/26-midnight on 6/28).

Annual Fee Members to Receive Letter about Increase

Much preparation has taken place to ensure staff are prepared for the changes in policies and procedures to take effect July 1. Risa Sargent (DN), Anne Fischer (IT), Cheryl Mann (DN), and Kim Terry (MaC) worked on a letter notifying our annual fee accountholders about the upcoming increase from $40 to $70 per year. The letter, shared here, is informative to our members and also provides some talking points for staff to use when discussing the increase with members.

Alignment: Departmental Location Transition Plan

Yesterday we held two informational meetings at the Downtown Library to discuss upcoming departmental moves that will collocate departments across the system. We covered the need for the changes, goals of the move, the big picture for which departments will be moving and a general timeline.
