Coded Couture

Last night the Oklahoma Contemporary Arts Center opened its latest exhibit, Coded Couture. This exhibit features the work of 10 international artist-designers who have combined fashion with computer coding. The result is stunning and includes a dress that acts as a lie detector, clothes that moves to follow the eyes of the observer, and jewerly with unique textures created by using 3D printed tissue. In addition to the art show, Google sponsored a hands-on design and tech area. The Downtown Library staff provided a display of materials in this space focusing on fashion design, computer coding, and other technologies.
Erin Oldfield, Director of Education and Public Programming for Oklahoma Contemporary, said that this was the largest and most successful opening that they have had and that she was thrilled to have partnered with the library for this display. A respresentative from Google, Andrew Silvestri who is the Head of Public Policy and External Affairs, was also at the event and was impressed to see the library getting involved with this kind of event. All this to say, "Good job, Downtown staff!" This is a wonderful example of the kind of impact that our interreach efforts and partnerships can make. If you have a chance, visit the exhibit. It is on display until August, 10.
