Review of last meeting minutes – Ric reported pricing on plastic tweezers to be used to remove sharps from book drops. Rick will order a supply of the tweezers and let the library managers know they are available.
To date, we have had no significant impact on business operations due to the flu outbreak. All libraries are using extra precautions such as providing hand sanitizer in public areas and performing additional cleaning of keyboards, headsets, etc. Ric is researching pricing on hand sanitizer stands to determine if it is feasible to purchase those for each library.
The committee reviewed the Safety Audit Checklists that were ordered from Business 21 Publishing. Although not all the checklists apply to the library, many of them are well written for our application and will be incorporated into the MLS Safety Manual for use with quarterly facility inspections. This addition will be rolled out as we are updating the Safety Manual and MSDS in January.
We continued our discussion of training tools to be used with facility inspections. We have ordered a Safety Checklist manual from Business 21 Publishing. The manual contains safety audit checklists covering all OSHA standards that will be reviewed during a PEOSH/OSHA inspection. When the manual arrives, the committee will review the material to determine if it the appropriate tool for the library system to use.
Following our discussion, the committee toured the Edmond facility using our current facility checklist. We looked for some of the most commonly ask questions/problems found during a PEOSH inspection:
At the last meeting, the committed voted to hold future meetings at other locations. This meeting was held at The Village. Mark Marshall represented The Village Library.
We continued the discussion from last meeting regarding facility inspections and developing training for managers for dealing with PEOSH regulations and inspections.
It was suggested that the Safety Committee conduct periodic site inspections at all agency locations. Recently, Patrick conducted a site inspection at Choctaw and had the opportunity to review the Safety Manual with the manager as well as discuss some housekeeping issues that could be considered a safety problem.
We discussed ways site inspections could be divided among the committee members and the frequency of the inspections.
The Webmaster is currently working on the New Hire Training link for the intranet. The link will include all of the safety powerpoint presentations required for all new hires as well as a copy of the Exposure Control Program which is required reading for the Bloodborne Pathogens training.
We discussed the current training materials for Bloodborne Pathogens. Some employees have expressed that they would like to see some variety for this particular topic since it is mandatory training annually.
The committee welcomes Ann Aliotta as a new member.
Copies of inspection reports for the first quarter have been routed to each committee member and reviewed. There was discussion about how we are tracking the completion of maintenance requests and action items on these new reports. It was suggested that we add a notation area on the form for to indicate the time and date requests were made in order to track correction of deficiencies.
