Access Services Minutes - December 21, 2021
Welcome: Tricia called the meeting to order and reminded everyone know that FYIs would be sent as an email instead of discussed as agenda topics. Attendees shared wins from their locations in the chat.
Winter Reading (Kristin, EPS): Winter Reading will be January 1 through February 28. All ages can participate but only adults are eligible for prizes. We will have new microwave safe mugs as prizes this year. We have a new sponsor this year, Slim Chicken. They donated coupons will be given out with the mugs. A list of drawing prizes is located under the Winter Reading tab on the Intranet under Prizes. Winter Reading training must be completed by December 31.
Review Access Priorities: The Access Priorities list was created in 2019. This guide was to help direct tasks that needed to get done for Access Staff. We reviewed the tasks and included setting up meeting rooms as an Access priority. Changes to access priorities will go live at each library by February 1.
Onboarding New Access Staff: Tricia discussed the importance of all managers being included in the Onboarding process. She also talked over the need to explain the reasoning for each task when we are training new Access Staff. We split into breakout rooms to discuss how we onboard new Access staff and involve other managers in the onboarding process at our locations. Each room will email Tricia with their feedback so she can share with the group.
Access Workshop Brainstorm: Tricia wanted feedback on the current workshops, what we cover, as well as what you all expect staff be trained on in the workshops. These workshops are not designed to do initial training but to supplement what they have learned through hands on training. We were divided into breakout rooms. Each group was assigned a workshop to discuss.
Shelving Order: The Shelving Cabinet met and went through the Shelving Order Guide. It was decided to simplify the rules, so it is easier to understand, removes rules that only apply to a handful of material, and put common sense back into shelving. The new Shelving Order Guide was sent to all the Access Managers. They will share the updated rules with staff and it will go live on January 10.
System Updates (Risa): Autorenewals will start February 1st. The “Renew” button will not be removed from the library catalog. Customers will be notified of the process starting in January. An announcement and talking points will be shared with staff soon.
