HelpNow Update-FAFSA Assistance

HelpNow recently updated to include live assistance for the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Live FAFSA tutors will be available Mon-Thu from 1PM-10PM* to help both students and parents with completing the FAFSA application.Tutors will be able to assist users at any stage of the application. 

On the HelpNow homepage, you will see a Featured Service section. Upon entering this section, you will be able to connect with a live FAFSA tutor.

Results of the 2020 Culture Survey

We would like to share the results of the culture survey (attached) that we asked all staff to complete in March, 2020. Please note that this survey was completed immediately prior to the COVID19 pandemic. Thus, these results reflect the organization’s culture in March, and may not be entirely accurate currently. Our Library has undergone significant changes since March.

Thank you to everyone who participated in the survey! The results will help us all better understand our organization and guide us in moving forward. 

eResource Mini Series: Job & Career Accelerator

Read for Adventure Program: New Zoo Book and Vouchers

The Oklahoma City Zoo, Oklahoma Department of Libraries, and Oklahoma Gas and Electric have launched a new zoo book and voucher program on Wednesday, July 8.  All public libraries in the state have received copies of the book and vouchers to hand out. The book, Juniper's Butterfly Garden, and vouchers are being sent to the libraries and should arrive early this week.

PRESS RELEASE: Belle Isle Library to Close for Renovations

  OKLAHOMA CITY, OK – The library known to many as the “Millennium Falcon” or “Starship Enterprise” will close on July 17, 2020 to undergo an extensive remodel, launching the 1960s style library into the future. Before this remodel begins, the library will move into a temporary location at 3621 NW Expressway, next to Gold’s Gym and Buy for Less.

Coming Soon to Office 365: Multi-Factor Authentication

Hello everyone,

Over the next few weeks, we will be rolling out Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) in Office 365. This will add a much needed layer of security and protection against compromised accounts, primarily to phishing.

Most of you should already be familiar with MFA, sometimes called 2-Factor Authentication. We already use MFA in some of our hosted services such as Paycom and Intacct.

New Templates Now Available!

The marketing department has put together several blank and some frequently requested signage templates to help make signage in your libraries a little simpler. These templates are available on the Intranet (HERE) and on LibraryAware in a folder titled, “MLS Markeitng Templates”.

Press Release: Metropolitan Library System Announces No Late Fines on Children's Materials

OKLAHOMA CITY– Beginning July 1, children’s materials including books, movies and music checked out from the Metropolitan Library System will no longer accrue fines if late.

“Fines are barriers to library access,” said Julie Ballou, Executive Director of the Metropolitan Library System. “We are committed to reducing barriers and supporting equitable access to literacy in our community.”

As of July 1, any existing fines on children’s materials will also be waived.
