Access Services Minutes - August 20, 2024
Welcome: Tricia called the meeting to order.
Learn: Attendees visited four departments at the Downtown Library to learn about their operations: Collection Development, Special Collections, Marketing and Communications, and Information Technology.
Delivery Study Vote (Tricia): Tricia led a discussion on how often we should do a delivery study, and asked what managers do with the data collected. Attendees shared how they disseminate the data to their staff. The discussion took a turn to training on hold slips. Attendees agreed online training would be helpful. It was decided, going forward, delivery studies will be done on an as needed basis. Tricia added hold slips to the Excel spreadsheet ‘Recommended Manger Topics to Review with Staff’.
Inventory Expectations (Tricia): Tricia created a document titled ‘Inventory Expectations’. The RD’s have a template document that we need to complete once inventory is completed. The missing and lost reports are to be run by all libraries regularly to help with the inventory process. Optional clean-up reports have been added that should be run before you start inventory.
System Updates (Tracie): None
CARL Updates (Tricia):
- Tricia is looking for two additional CARL Trainers for 2025. Training will go back to all in-person. Trainers time commitment is 25 hours a year. Branches should submit names to Tricia if you have interested staff by September 1.
- Manage Holds will be fixed with the TLC upgrade on Wednesday, August 21.
- Tricia would like information from the group about the questions they have about CARL training.
- Even though Tricia is in Information Technology now, the goal is to continue to meet in October and December. The October AM Meeting will focus on RFID Pads. The group is to use them more and report what problems are happening.
Meeting Adjourned 3:05pm.
