Introductions and welcome

Dana Morrow
Outreach offers performers a chance to audition as an opportunity to introduce them to staff and for staff to ask questions as needed. This opportunity does not mean that the performer has an endorsement from Outreach.

Kudos to Kelly Riha and Mary Sholly for their work in the communities. Including their presence at: A+ Arts, Literacy Conference, and Old Timers Day.
Literacy Referral Service. This program is about to launch. This program came about from a suggestion from Nancy Anthony. We are providing the room, marketing, and volunteers. The goal of this program is not to teach participants how to read, but to connect them with somebody that can help them. The Literacy Council is working towards being more available to the community. They currently are working on updating their website and distributing new and up to date info.

Introduction to Robotics – a class offered by Tech JoYnt. There will be 3 tester programs at BI, ED and VI libraries. techJoYnT-Home

Shakespeare Connexion, INFO magazine has the correct info for the specific programs. We missed putting it on the flyers and posters. The gentleman presenting the programs is very flexible and is aware of the situation.

We will remain at reading 2 books per entry.

IPAD, Lyric, Johnny / Swadleys, Barron’s, Cowboy hall of fame, OKCMOA, Family Membership to the Zoo, Food co-op, History center, Reduction theatre, Good Egg Dining, and More to come!

Special guest Marylin Backus:
Publishing is changing quickly. It is becoming easier to publish your own books which is making it so more and more customers are coming into the libraries asking for their book to be considered for our system. We are trying to add Oklahoma Authors if possible. We try to make sure that everything meets our selection criteria. MSL would like it if you could give your input. Most of the time you are going to have met the author or had some sort of face to face interaction that will help you build an opinion of the material. Continue to have the author to send the book to MSL, they must send a copy that does not have to be returned, if they try to attach strings to the item (such as return by this date, you must purchase etc.), you then have a way out. Offer them sites and places where their book can be reviewed.

Policy and Procedures – Access to Materials - will have the criteria that are needed for a book to be placed into the library.

If you can, get information about the book, mainly background info, where it has been reviewed, background of customer, quality of item, if possible send in copies of books/reviews, and send this information in with item to MSL

If you have questions about how is the best way to offer book signings etc ask Dana Morrow. The main goal is for the author to present information, if they choose to sell their books, that will just be extra. We are not here to sell merchandise.
