Reading Program

As reported only a few weeks ago, our 2014 summer reading program will be online and we have purchased the software we will use, Evanced Solutions’ Summer Reader.

Our next steps involve making decisions about the structure of the reading program. We need to decide which things need to change in order to meet our goals (see August 20, 2013 announcement).

The Incentives to Read (ITR) committee will work on the structure of the program. Present at the September 11 ITR meeting were: Karen Marriott (MSO), Kay Bauman (LO), Emily Williams (OUT), Kristin Williamson (OUT), Julie Ballou (LO & PIE), LaVetta Dent (LO & PIE), Jana Hausburg (LO & PIE).

Summer Reading Overview

Training:

- Stacy reported MLS staff had to review scenarios and take assessments after each one. He thinks it’s important to have assessments and making sure that staff knows all the important components. He wonder if we need to try face to face training in the libraries.

- This year (2015), Kristin, Emily and Heidi visited some libraries to discuss Summer Reading changes and updates.

Software Options:

A few months ago Kellie Delaney attended an Evanced Seminar where they introduced their new summer reader product Wandoo. During the demo they announced that Summer Reader will no longer be supported. Issues came up and they changed the original cutoff date from summer 2017 to this summer (2015). Kellie introduced new software options to review, there was a brief description about these options.
