Incentives to Read Minutes - November 24, 2015

Summer Reading:
LaVetta handed out the “Summer Reading Goals for ITR Committee” Sheet
Review Goals:
- LaVetta and Kay Bauman have been working with Jon Rollman to configure numbers from Summer Reading Goals and felt we need to make some changes to merge into the new Strategic Plan, using our mission and vision as our guiding principles.
- The new set of Summer Reading Goals, three in total, include objectives, rationale statements, and key measures focusing on the possible accomplishments and outcome of each Strategic Objective.
- LaVetta stated these goals were written with the Library Regional Directors. LaVetta, Jon Rollman, and Kay Bauman will meet to discuss how the goals will fit within the Strategic Plan.
- Key Measures under Goal 3 has not changed much, LaVetta and Kay agree it should be discussed further at the next Library Manager’s Meeting for further ideas and clarity.
- LaVetta will get with Kellie Delaney to get correct totals for downloadable portion of Goal 3: Key Measures, in order to have an accurate percentage. As of now the Key Measure final numbers has an increase of 10% percent from last year totals.
- LaVetta asked for the ITR Committee’s thoughts on Goal 2 and if they have any ideas for better wording.
Comments: Kristin stated the goal is long and should be minimized by rewording and making it flow better. Kristin feels it should flow with the other rationale statements listed.
LaVetta stated she want the Summer Reading Goals shorter, but to state the goal clearly and accurately.
Discussion followed to reword and shorten Summer Reading Goal 2, as follows:
Goal 2: Summer Reading members experience a summer of learning
Strategic Objective: Grow our Summer Reading community by providing continued opportunity to track when they read.
Rationale: An increase in Summer Reading members’ reading and tracking at least 20 minutes when they read, will show a growing community of readers. Studies show individuals who read at least 20 minutes a day have significantly higher success in life.
Key Measure:
-
Completion of a third goal option, Read it Forward (RIF) increases from 2,097 members to 2,307 (10%)
Timeline & Discussion:
- LaVetta reported that Anne Fischer contacted Beanstack to let them know we will purchase the software. LaVetta and Anne received the contract and gave it to Tim Rogers for review. Once the contract is returned, Anne and move forward with the purchase process.
- Kristin reported she will begin ordering books in December. It could take six to eight weeks to be delivered, may be received in January or mid-February. Kristin stated once books are delivered she may need help with sorting.
- Heather Zeoli has begun mailing letters to potential donors for Summer Reading donations.
- Summer Reading postcards will be sent to Oklahoma schools in April.
- LaVetta stated in training for next year, we need to be sure our staff know that we will assist members with logging information online. She also want us to emphasize with staff that we want to present learning/reading as an enjoyment.
- Erin stated during training we need to emphasize that any form of book, magazine, comic book, audio, ebook, etc. counts as reading time.
