Encouraging Sign Up

One of the ways we measure the success of Summer Reading is how many people sign up to participate in the program. All staff are encouraged to promote the program and help customers to sign up in the library.

  1. Talk to Customers! The #1 way to encourage your customers to participate is to personally invite them. Check-out and curbside delivery are perfect times to promote the Summer Reading program to all customers. A simple, “Did you know that Summer Reading is starting?” can get the conversation started.
  2. Community Goal! If customers don’t want prizes or giveaways, remind them that they could share their love of reading with others by helping us reach our community goal.
  3. Adults can participate! Because SRP only began to include adults in 2014, many of our long-time customers may not be aware that SRP is for them too!
  4. Non-readers can participate! There are lots of ways to earn points from completing activities to listening to audiobooks.
  5. Babies can participate! Children who see their loved one's reading are more likely to find reading interesting, enjoyable, and learn more words than those who aren’t exposed to books. Plus reading together allows everyone involved to earn points while spending quality time together!
  6. All reading counts! Time spent reading for school or other reasons can also be logged for Summer Reading. Just make sure they know how to log their reading for our program and to come back and pick up their prizes before the summer is over.
