Outreach

Outreach Best Practices

  • Each library will set an Outreach goal using the Goal Planning Document
  • Each library will use the Outreach Tracker to document their efforts. This will create a record of contact info to use in future years.
  • Summer Reading is for all ages and all engagement staff are encouraged to reach out to our customers locally via schools, businesses, organizations, and non-profits.
  • Come up with your 1-Minute sales pitch
  • Consider various methods of “contactless” communication, like phone calls, emails, social media posts, and direct messages on social media.
  • Study the program offerings listed on the online calendar to be familiar with what is going on so you’re able to entice different populations in your communications with programs they might find interesting.
  • Encourage customers to sign up and track their reading by downloading the Beanstack app onto their smart phone.
  • Download the large Summer Reading Poster (11x17) or letter size poster (8.5x11) to send to local businesses, and community organizations.
  • Be sure to mention to adult participants that they can select either books or a tote bag as their prize for reaching the goal level.
  • Encourage customers to help us reach out community goal so we can donate books to Restore OKC.

School Engagement Specific

  • Our new Niche Academy Course is for all educators and includes possible prizes for participating! Encourage principal and librarian contacts to forward on this info to their entire faculty.
  • Many individual schools have their own PTA groups, newsletters, blogs, websites, and social media accounts. They may also use local portals to communicate with parents. Make sure to share the great social media graphics, fliers, and videos all available on metrolibrary.org/summerschool
