One Minute Sales Pitch: 

These are short pitches you will repeat a million times this summer as you try and engage customers on the fly during curbside check out or through digital communications. Once you hook them, you can help them sign-up right then and there and explain more of the details of the program.

Based on Audience:

Adults

  • Did you know our Summer Reading program is for adults too? Reading 20 minutes a day is great for your mental health! Reading for pleasure reduces stress and improves memory and concentration. We can all use more stress relief during this challenging time.
  • Did you know our Summer Reading program is for adults too? You can earn prizes just by kicking back and reading!
  • Did you know that reading for work/listening to audiobooks/reading with your children counts for Summer Reading?”
  • We have great prizes this year! The 600 point or 10 hours of reading prize includes your choice of either a tote bag or 2 free kids books!
  • Have you heard about Read It Forward? If you’re not interested in the prizes, you can help us reach our Community Goal to donate a book to a partner charity. This year's prizes will go to the Regional Foodbank of Oklahoma if we hit our goal. 
  • Reaching reading goals will make you eligible for special drawings for even bigger prizes!
  • All kinds of reading count for Summer Reading: books, eBooks, audiobooks, magazines, comics and more. Do fun reading-related activities to earn more points to count towards your goals.

Children & Teens

  • Would you like to earn free books this summer and earn a chance to win larger prizes?
  • Do you like to impress your teacher? Can you imagine if you told your new teacher on the first day of school that you had read 20 minutes a day every day this summer?
  • Did you know we have an app that lets you track your reading? It makes it super easy to earn free books and possibly bigger prizes.

Parents and Child Caregivers 

  • Does your child have to read for school this summer? Did you know that they could earn prizes at the library for tracking the reading they are already doing for school?
  • Sign up babies and toddlers for Summer Reading, too! We'll help you find books to read to your young ones, and literacy activities that will help them get ready to read when they're older. It's important for brain development!
  • Logging your family’s minutes is easy in the Beanstack app. You can quickly switch between readers in your own profile. Our website has great instructions on how to do it.
  • You could challenge your student, child, grandchild, neighbor, niece or nephew and see who can earn the most points this summer!

Groups

  • Did you know that groups can sign up for our Summer Reading program? It’s simple to do and you can manage all your group participants under one account.

Curbside Starters

  • Our Summer Reading program for all ages is going on right now. Would you like a handout with more information? You can also find the information on our website.
  • I see you have kids with you. Have you signed them and yourself up for the Summer Reading program? I can leave an information sheet in your bag of materials.

Based on Community Need:

  • Civic Engagement: By signing up for our summer reading program, you could earn books that can be donated to a child in need in Oklahoma County.
  • Cultural Enrichment: Free programs are a huge part of Summer Reading! Check out our calendar of online events.
  • Educational Attainment: Students who read 20 minutes a day every day tend to perform in the top 90 percent on standardized reading tests by 6th grade. The Summer Reading program is free to you and makes encouraging your student to read easier as they can work to earn points and prizes.
  • Health & Wellness:   Did you know if you read 20 minutes a day you will read 1.8 million words this year? Reading strengthens your memory and keeps your brain healthy!
  • Literacy: All kinds of reading count for Summer Reading: books, ebooks, audiobooks, magazines, comics and more. Do fun reading-related activities to earn more points to count towards your goals.
  • Workforce Development: We have books and materials to help you with job skills, resume writing, and interviewing. Summer Reading is a great way to set goals and stay motivated as you read to improve your skills.
