This policy ensures that if individual work schedules and library budget allocations permit, the library may defray travel and/or registration expenses for staff members on authorized library business or attending professional or technical meetings and conferences.
Regulations
- Library managers or department heads and the respective directors and deputy executive directors are authorized to approve travel and registration requests for staff who report to them.
- The Metropolitan Library Commission through one of the officers must approve travel requests for the Executive Director.
- The following criteria are applied in reviewing all requests:
- The staff member's last performance appraisal rating.
- Purpose of the travel and relationship of the trip to the staff member's library duties and position.
- For requests to attend professional association meetings or conferences, preference will be given in accordance to the final approved annual budget.
- The library does not allow compensatory time for travel to and from conferences and conference meetings that extend beyond the forty hour work week or the eight hour work day.
