Sarah Brown (DN) asked for help systemwide support in planning programs for this month-long event in October.
Children Reading to Dogs
Heidi Port (DVS) talked about the program and asked staff to check with their supervisor if interested in helping staff the reading events on Thursday evenings.
Vital Signs: Aging in Central Oklahoma
Emily introduced guest Spencer Kusi, Director of Research and Advocacy, and Grace Mortenson-Korth from the United Way of Central Oklahoma. They provided an overview of the recent report Vital Signs: Aging in Central Oklahoma. Spencer discussed partner services for older adults, a growth in demand for healthcare, seniors in the workforce, income & economics, how our community is preparing for retirement, and facts about social isolation. He talked about how the library plays a key role in helping seniors in our community. For more info, the PowerPoint presentation is in the Adult Services SharePoint. Summer Reading 2020 Debrief
Kristin led the group in a discussion about what worked and didn’t work with this year’s Summer Reading program. Next year could look much the same as 2020.

Jessica (SO) - book discussion, plans to craft
Sarah (DN) - moving Paranormal Fest online, started a new program, planning for Native American Heritage Month in November
Danielle & Lynda (AL) - Dog Appreciation Day tonight, adult activities every other week that’ve been very popular & plans to go until October
Shalla & Danielle (ED) - planning to start virtual content in September, providing Author Hour program
Tulin (MC) - may create Zoom program for adults in non-fiction genre
Judith (SCR) - Special Collections staff are here to support libraries, trying to capture people’s COVID journals
Meagan (DC) - take home kits are popular, adult board game night is big, book clubs are doing well, foreclosure workshop will be brought back due to popularity, Free Comic Book Day will be planned for the near future.
Kate & Cindy (VI) - craft kits are successful, creating Zoom panel of therapists for self-care program
Darcus (ED) - staying engaged with assisted living centers & in-house reading group with reading lists, planning care packages for centers, working with SO on citizenship class
Heather (NW) - kits for adults every other week, created book lists of non-fiction, no virtual programming yet, just take-home kits
Phil (SO): resuming citizenship classes, working with CLC and they will run September through May
Kate (DN): Make-your-own-envelope take-home kit. R2D
Julianna (BI): every library has a Voter Registration kit from that project team, please use those resources to help promote voting
Grant (BE) - providing craft kits for all ages, online board game club, movie night program with goodie bag
Paula (WA) - knit club, make & take
Michelle (DN) - new Adult Services staff & training
Becky (NW) - family kits, celebrating wacky holidays every day
Edie (BE) - staff is doing a great job planning programs
Ann (RE) - kits, book lists, categorizing movies for bundles, online poetry group, November is National Novel Writers Month and will bring in an author to Zoom
Jakob (DN) - working on Harry Potter escape room & partnering with Special Collections to create spooky virtual escape room for Paranormal Fest
Andrew (CH) - do-it-yourself resume on Cypress, themed grab bags for adults, wants to create Native American Heritage Month program (paranormal stories?) for November
Bonnie (CL) - creating movie grab bags and others
Adrien (ED) - was helping with CRTD & Tailored Titles, Wednesday Café in September
Scott (CL) - bench bags will start in October, hand knitting take home kit
Susan (CSD) - DVD book river updating, trying to keep DVDs circulating
Darrie (SO) - family fun kits really popular
Beth (CL) - planning healthy living, yoga, gardening videos with Kellie, cooking/water bath canning/fall gardening videos, Science Museum kit was very popular this summer, working with state historical society to do Native American genealogy
Kellie (SPP) - available for social media programming ideas/discussion
Jessica (EPS) - National Voter Registration Day, 123 PWM will be staff tips online in September then Zoom sessions in October with the health professionals
Kristin (EPS) - paper flowers, dance & music performances
Teresa (EPS) - virtual Tai Chi was popular & there may be another in the winter, Americans and the Holocaust exhibit plans to reschedule
Emily (EPS) - please share take home kit resources in the All Engagement Staff SharePoint, OKC StorySLAM partnership will continue through at least November and they have a spooky stories theme in October, October is also Teentober and Paranormal Fest and we have a paranormal YA author panel on Halloween, Winter Reading planning will start next month
