Aspen Implementation

The Metropolitan Library Commission approved the purchase of Aspen (a discovery system offered by Bywater Solutions) at the April 20th meeting. Aspen is a discovery system which offers a single-search interface combining print resources from the catalog (CARL.X) and electronic resources (i.e. Overdrive, Hoopla, Kanopy, and more). I have been very interested in implementing such a system to improve guest experience and increase use of our resources.

Foreign Language Material Expanding

We are proud to announce that MLS is expanding the number of languages we offer in the physical collection. We are developing print book collections in Vietnamese, French, and Farsi. We are still looking for a vendor that can provide materials and MARC records in Pashto and Dari, but we hope to add those languages next.

As part of this process, we will be adjusting how we catalog and process materials in languages other than English. Details are outlined below.

The collections will start small and grow over time. We have ordered the following:
