Foreign Language Material Expanding

We are proud to announce that MLS is expanding the number of languages we offer in the physical collection. We are developing print book collections in Vietnamese, French, and Farsi. We are still looking for a vendor that can provide materials and MARC records in Pashto and Dari, but we hope to add those languages next.

As part of this process, we will be adjusting how we catalog and process materials in languages other than English. Details are outlined below.

The collections will start small and grow over time. We have ordered the following:

Edmond: 50 adult French and 50 adult Farsi titles
Northwest: 50 children’s Farsi titles
Belle Isle: 50 adult and 50 children’s Vietnamese titles

We may add titles to other library locations over time as we receive feedback from staff and guests and as we see usage statistics for holds. Almonte will receive Vietnamese materials for their new building when it opens next winter.

As always, please use the Suggest a Title form with guests who have specific titles requests and send general subject requests to Janeal Walker.
