ILS Demos

The Request for Proposals for an ILS was sent out the last week of August. Three vendors will present a demonstration of their ILS on October 22, 23 and 24, one each day, in the 46th Star auditorium at the Downtown Library. The ILS Task Force wants to have many staff attend these demonstrations and complete an evaluation form on each vendor. The demonstrations are for listening to rather than asking questions and will be directed for us to learn very specific information to answer the evaluation. It is also important to note that the evaluation form is only one tool that will be used in determining a recommendation for the Metropolitan Library Commission.
The mornings (8:30-11:30) of October 22, 23 and 24th attendees will be:
- Materials Selection Office
- Technical Processing staff who currently work with the ILS software
- Cataloging
- Tech Support (as previously noted in their July 2012 minutes)
- ILS Task Force
The afternoons (1:30 - 4:30) of October 22, 23 and 24th attendees will be:
- 1 circulation clerk, 1 librarian and the manager of Library Operations from each location
- Circulation Control Technician
- Tech Support (as previously noted in their July 2012 minutes)
- ILS Task Force
The attendee must be present at all 3 demos so that the evaluator is the same for each vendor.
Please plan your schedules accordingly.
NOTE for Managers of Library Operations: If you cannot send 3 people to each of the 3 afternoons use the following priority in choosing who to send:
- a circulation clerk, a librarian, and the Manager
- a circulation clerk and the Manager
- a circulation clerk and a librarian
- a circulation clerk

With supervisor's permission would it be OK for staff in positions not listed above to just drop in for a few minutes?
We have a long road to travel with these changes and I think it's fabulous that others are engaged and interested in the process!
Peeking in the door for a few minutes will likely not cause a disruption to the flow of the presentation and, if your supervisor is okay with it, is probably okay to do for a few minutes. I suspect it will not be practical for employees to drop in for a few minutes unless s/he is already at the DN location.
