Summer Reading Tip of the Week—Badges and Learning Tracks

Print

As of this morning, 13,033 people have registered for Summer Reading thanks to all of your hard work! Way to go everyone!!

For this week’s Summer Reading Tip of the Week, EPS would like to do a deep dive into this year’s badges and learning tracks.

What are Badges?

A badge is a visual representation on a reader's account of successful completion of a specific reading goal level (Logging Badges), learning track (Activity Badges), or activity (Program and Review Badges). We've got a cheat sheet of all the new 2018 Activity Badges available here! We’ve also got a cheat sheet of all available Logging and Activity Badges broken down by age group available here!

Interested in seeing the full list of badges that readers can earn this year? Scroll down to the end of this post!

How Much Do I Need to Read to Earn Badges and Prizes?

  • You’ll be awarded a "Registered for Program" Program Badge when you sign up for our 2018 Summer Reading Program.
  • You'll be awarded Logging Badges when you read your first minute and complete 5, 10, 15, and 20 hours worth of reading. At 10 and 20 hours, you'll be eligible for prizes!
  • To complete the Summer Reading Program and earn the coveted "Summer Reading 2018 Completed" Program Badge, you'll need to read 20 hours!
  • At 30 hours, you'll earn the "Read It Forward" Logging Badge and a book will automatically be donated to someone in need.

Summer Reading is as simple as that! If our customers want to do more, you can encourage them to check out all of our supplemental and 100% optional learning tracks for ways to earn Activity Badges!

If you’d like to continue to dive deeper, keep reading!

What are Learning Tracks?

Learning tracks are ways for you to discover library resources and materials that tie in with Summer Reading. For example, the "Libraries Rock" learning track guides you through activities and rewards you by posting a badge to your account once completed. There are also learning tracks for digital downloads, library social media, book recommendations, and more!

badge requirements?

Hi Jessica! I noticed that while the cheat sheet lists the badges, it doesn't include the requirements for each badge. I have found them for adult badges on my own personal SRP account, but can you direct me to where I can find the requirements for each badge as far as a kids account is concerned? I am mostly curious about the early childhood ones.
Thanks!

Hi Amy!

Hi Amy!

Thank you for your question! We tried to tinker with the settings in Beanstack so that every library location can have access to view the activities once logged in with their library's staff account, but can't seem to find an easy fix! It's something that we will definitely work with Beanstack on next year! We've had some other requests for a listing of the learning track activities, so we are happy to provide a staff cheat sheet to help you all provide the best customer service possible!

I have uploaded 2018 SR Learning Track Activities to the Downloads page: http://my.metrolibrary.info/drupal/summer_reading/files/sr-2018-learning.... Please take a look when you have a chance and let me know what else we can do to help!
