Database Highlight #41: We've got the Comic for That

Print

This week’s highlight is one of the few collections anyone in Oklahoma County can access without a library card. Biblioboard’s Dark Horse collection features classic Dark Horse comics like Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Hellboy, and Usagi Yojimbo. The collection can be access through the web or by downloading the Biblioboard app for iOS, Android, and KindleFire. As long as a user has access to wifi (at least until a title is downloaded), location services turned on, and is in the Oklahoma County boundaries, they can read without a library card. That makes this a great outreach collection! Those who want even more ebooks can easily apply for a library card online.

Speaking of comics, Free Come Book Day is this Saturday! Customers heading to Northwest or the Community Libraries will enjoy free comic book celebrations. Anyone who can’t make it out to those locations can search here to find a participating comic book store in their area. Here's the list of this year’s free comics.

Action Steps:

  1. Take a look at the Dark Horse Collection. See anything that interests you?
  2. Try checking out any Biblioboard title – you can find cookbooks, indie fiction, and local authors here! Do you have any customers who would be interested to know about this platform? Does your library serve any set of customers who may not have library cards but who would like to access ebooks?

Dragon Age

I love the Dragon Age series of games! We have the Greg Ruka series Magekiller in our collection.
Axe Cop is also super fun. It's a brother team of a 7 year old and his 30ish artist, the stories are fun and kid friendly.

I don't really read any

I don't really read any comics that are published by Dark Horse comics. Emily the Strange and The Goon look interesting.

I think customers would be interested in Biblioboard, if they knew about it. I wish we had those neat Biblioboard bookmarks again. Customers really responded positively to those.

Vampire hunter D light novels

I enjoyed the anime and the manga of Vampire Hunter D but am surprised we have access to the light novel version. I will definitely be looking into/promoting Biblioboard more.
Yes this might work for those who can't get a card for free and want to be able to check something out from home.
