Database Highlight #28: We've got the Wiring Diagram for That

Print

Was one of your New Year's resolutions about saving money and/or learning a new skill? Our two automobile repair databases can help by providing detailed repair instructions like fixing a broken tail-light or installing new brakes.

Available in-library use only, Mitchell ProDemand is the ultimate resource for car repair. Designed for professionals, the database covers over 50 year's worth of national and foreign cars, suvs, jeeps, and more. In addition to instructions and the ever-important wiring diagrams, Mitchell keeps up with safety recalls and estimated repair costs.

ProDemand® optimized with SureTrack® helps auto repair technicians save time with complete OEM repair information and exclusive real-world knowledge delivered in a single lookup. – from the vendor

Can’t make it into the library? No worries! We’ve got remote used covered with Auto Repair Reference Center. While AARC doesn’t cover as many vehicles as Mitchell Pro, what it does have is provided in clear step-by-step instructions available on screen or as a pdf download.  AARC will be rebranded as AutoMate in the coming weeks but it will still provide the same content.

This database contains do-it-yourself repair and maintenance information on most major manufacturers of domestic and imported vehicles. New repair procedures, bulletins and updates are added to the product on a regular basis. All of the content has been created by ASE certified technicians. – from the vendor

Action Steps – try one of the following

  • Using either Mitchell ProDemand or AARC, look up your car. Were you able to find repair information?
  • Is there a repair you’ve been meaning to learn? Try looking up the steps up in either database.
  • Tell one way you think either of these databases would be useful to customers in your area.

Air fresheners for all respondents!

I have used Mitchell quite a bit for myself and it has been quite useful.

There are a couple of shade tree mechanics that will come in on the weekends to use either or both of these databases. I have also helped a few customers look up wiring diagrams for their vehicles. They're pretty handy databases.

MitchellPro Demand! I looked

MitchellPro Demand! I looked up my 2014 CR-V, and it is totally there! There isn't any repair I'm interested in at the moment, but it is such a great resource. When the time comes, I will be using it.

I think members of any area could find great use for it. I love that it is always available at the library. Unlike a physical book, the last copy won't be checked out and unavailable for use.

I found my car in the MitchellPro Demand database, but not the AARC. I did find out how to change the battery.

I think these databases would be awesome for those brave enough to attempt car repairs on their own. (I am not one of those people.)
