Database Highlight #18: We've got the Story for That

Print

NaNoWriMo is chugging along and it’s time to get some inspiration! This week’s database highlight, Literary Reference Center Plus is chock-full of full-text stories, author biographies, literary criticism, and essays. Pair it with Poetry and Short Story Reference Center and you have everything you need to inspire you to write the next great American novel.

This rich full-text database provides a broad spectrum of information on thousands of authors and their works across literary disciplines and timeframes. It gives students, professors and researchers a foundation of literary reference works to meet their research needs. – from the vendor

From Ralph Ellison to Joy Harjo, Oklahoma has a rich literary history. For more information on Oklahoma Authors, check out the Oklahoma Department of Library’s Oklahoma Authors database. The database is a list of Oklahoma authors, past and present.

Action Steps

  1. Look up your favorite author or favorite work in LRC+ or PSSRC and share a fact, first line, or interesting insight
  2. List an Oklahoma author or poet whose works you enjoy – if you’re stumped, use the Oklahoma Author page for ideas

Printable flyers and posters for the LRC+ and PSSRC are attached. These include the Research page url and our logo - thanks MAC!

Sadie,

Sadie,
I just want to let you know that I really enjoy these database highlight posts. Even though I might not comment on each of them, I definitely check out each of them. Thank you for these posts and keep them coming!

China Mieville

I read an interview with China Mieville. I was surprised to learn that "The Last Days of New Paris" was somewhat created from an idea of Mieville to create an open-world sandbox video game.

I don't know if I've read too many Oklahoma authors just yet, so I guess my homework is to read some books by someone on the Oklahoma Authors page!
