Eclipse Party

Print

There was a recent article that mentioned that the public could get free eclipse glasses at their local library.  As a result, we have received a number of questions from library members interested in receiving eclipse viewing glasses.  Every location hosting the Science Museum Oklahoma Eclipse Party program in the month of August is receiving 100 eclipse viewing glasses.  Locations not hosting that program can still request eclipse viewing glasses by emailing me.    If your location is hosting the Eclipse Party hand out the viewing glasses at the program, one per person.  Any viewing glasses left over after that program may be handed out as you see fit.  Here is a link to the event calendar for the eclipse programs.

We will post something on the website next week with details about how people can obtain eclipse viewing glasses and where they can attend programs.  I wanted to make sure that you know what is going on so you can better assist people when they ask about it.  If you have any questions, would like for your library to receive eclipse viewing glasses, or want help with displays or activities surrounding the eclipse please let me know.

I am a bit confused because

I am a bit confused because the flyer states that the Midwest City program is Tuesday, August 22. The eclipse is Monday, August 21 (I had to look it up to make sure as it is not printed on the flyer - wouldn't it be good information for the public to have handy?)

Yes, the eclipse is on Monday

Yes, the eclipse is on Monday, August 21 with the peak of coverage being from about 1pm-1:15pm CDT. Midwest City is the only location having their eclipse program after the eclipse has happened. For this reason, they can hand out eclipse glasses in advance of the eclipse and their program. I am leaving it up to them to decide how they wish to distribute their glasses.

Thank you for pointing out that the date and time of the eclipse are not on the posters. I will send out posters with that information to all of the libraries. Additional resources are available through NASA https://eclipse2017.nasa.gov/ and STAR_NET Libraries https://www.starnetlibraries.org/2017eclipse/.
