Read It Forward Update

Print

Here in Outreach we're sorting through the remaining Summer Reading supplies and doing all the stacking, labeling, boxing and unboxing, stickering, and counting that goes with that. We're just about ready to deliver the books that our summer community of readers donated through Read it Forward. Our Read it Forward total this year is 3,758, which is 79% more than last year's total of 2,097. We attribute this large increase not only to increased awareness and higher overall participation, but also to Summer Readers having the option to read their goal books forward at any level. Plus, adults had the option to select books instead of their other incentives. Way to go! Thanks for all your hard work promoting and explaining Read it Forward, and to the Friends of the Library for funding all these great books.

We'll be delivering these to the Oklahoma Messages Program, Special Care, Citizens Caring for Children, and the Apartment Association of Central Oklahoma.

Here's a little more

Here's a little more information about the RiF recipients. These are all non-profit institutions.

Books will be read by incarcerated parents on video, and then their children are mailed that video and copy of the book.

Special Care - http://specialcareinc.org/about-special-care/history/
Books will be used by children, with and without special needs, during the center's year-round, high-quality early childhood education, specialized care and on-site therapeutic services.

Citizens Caring for Children - http://www.cccokc.org/
Books will be given to foster families during annual visits.

Apartment Association of Central Oklahoma - http://www.aacoonline.org
Books will be taken to common areas of apartment complexes and to after school programs.
