Welcome: Tricia welcomed everyone.

Ice Breaker: Staff shared a feature in CARL they would like to learn more about.

Submitted Topics (Tricia Andrews)

  • Hold Maximums: A guest can have 50 items on hold per policy. What this looks like in CARL is they may have up to 50 items “hold in queue”. Once an item goes to “in transit hold” or “hold shelf” it frees up one of those 50 “hold in queue” slots. A guest can have more than 50 items on hold at one time.  We recommend having a conversation with them on how holds work, how we can suspend holds, or even use a “wish list” saved list feature in the Catalog.
  • ONEcard Accounts and Missing Sponsor Information: We can add a sponsor on the ONEcard accounts, but these accounts are updated each semester and the sponsor information is deleted with each update. If we need to contact the sponsor about a damaged/missing item, try your best to contact them by the phone number on the account and/or mailing a letter to the address.

CARL Tips (Tricia Andrews)

  • Entering Account Information and CARL Quick Tips: We want to make sure when creating an account or updating the information we enter the information correctly. The CARL Quick Tips sheet (https://my.metrolibrary.info/drupal/sites/default/files/documents/Circul...) has information on how to enter an address correctly, phone number, sponsor information, and includes additional information. If you pull up an account and notice some of the information was not entered correctly, please correct it. Some tips include:
    • Dashes are used in phone numbers
    • Sponsor information is LAST NAME, FIRST NAME
    • If there is a Sponsor listed, the address goes in the Sponsor area
    • Full Legal Name is only used if the preferred name is different than the legal name on their ID. Example: ID says William Smith but goes by Bill. This way if we use their ID to look up an account, we can search the legal name and still pull up the account.

Another note, changing “Internet Access” to “No” does not stop that guest from using the computer and ONLY libraries with Marker Spaces can put in “Yes”. If you accidentally enter “yes” change it to “no”.

Discussion (Tricia Andrews and Risa Jensen-Jones)

  • TLC and CARL: Tricia and Risa provided some updates on what’s happening with our TLC products.
    • TLC has top 10 priorities for CARL. These priorities were voted by the other 18 CARL libraries. Some examples include:
      • Allow text notification ONLY without a secondary method
      • Expired and cancelled hold in the same report
      • Increased staff login security
    • March 2023 developments in CARL.Connect include adding Claims buttons, redesign of Items, and the addition of holds management
  • Scenario Brainstorming: To make sure we are using relevant scenarios in our new CARL micro-courses Tricia asked everyone to share a scenario they encountered in the past 7 days between a guest and CARL. Each participant voted for their top three scenarios. These scenarios will be incorporated into the micro-courses where appropriate.

RD System Updates (Risa Jensen-Jones)

  • Guest Experience Proposals: A proposal has passed, and there will be two phases.
    • 1st Phase- Local and system wide commitment for guest experience
    • 2nd Phase- Customer Feedback to improve their experience
  • State Legislation: Watching State Legislation this year on what bills might be proposed, especially when it comes to banned materials
  • ONEcard: Possibility adding another school district to ONEcard. Here are some statistics for ONEcard accounts:
    • 37,000 ONEcard Accounts
    • 110,000 items that have been checked out
    • 700 items checked out currently
    • 3,000 items lost
    • 150 items overdue
